Please share your workarounds for the terrible Sonos app!

Been a loyal Sonos user since 2013 and this latest app is wreaking havoc on my listening. The lag in the volume adjustment is really bad. The only part of controlling the audio that seems to work is the mute, which is the only way to prevent potential hearing loss and wincing looks from everyone in the room.

Like many Sonos users, listening to music is one of the most important parts of my day and, living in a 120 year old house, accessing it in whatever room I’m in is a luxury that Sonos has afforded me for years. Not any more.

So, community, what are your workarounds? I run everything from Tidal using Airplay to connect to Sonos. I tried running everything from Sonos but the interface is too clunky.

I don’t have an answer but have the same problem and it’s terrible.  I’ve been a user and fan of Sonos for 10 years and the current lag is so bad its virtually unusable.   I

I share your frustration. Have been loyal to Sonos but they have really let their customers down. And there is a lack of communication or admission of the issues. My volume controls don’t work.

Uninstall the new app and reinstall the old one (16.1).  There’s a Reddit thread about it.

The lag and non-responsiveness is so frustrating.  What should be a chill listening experience is never that anymore.  Randomly stops playing, volume control is super laggy and it decides on its own which speaker configurations to play on.  Tried to downgrade the app but it warns of having to degrade components to do so.

Some people are having success with Sinophobia e, so maybe a cheap iPad from eBay and a download of this might get you through.

I have uninstalled the new version and installed the old version from APKMirror website. This is something I’ve never done before with any android app. This originally worked for my Android Samsung tablet and phone but then I needed to re-install it again on my phone and now get the message “App not installed as package appears to be invalid”. Very frustrating.

After investing a lot of money in Sonos equipment I’ve now lost all trust and brand loyalty in the company because of this terrible app update. Loosing basic functions like play next, add to end of queue, add to playlist, searching local library, local library album artwork and so many other features has been incredibly annoying.

I paid for a product that had these functions. I didn’t expect them to be suddenly removed without my consent! No one seems to be happy with the new app and the response from Sonos has been disappointment. They should make the old version available for installation.

I’m using Sonophone just to control volume and it works lot better than the new app.

I’m not very tech savvy, but I’ve enjoyed using Sonos which we have throughout our large home and backyard for several years (though we don’t use Sonos speakers). The problem I have is with the Sonos app we have on our cell phone that we use to control everything. They change the look and function of this app from time to time. They don’t make it better. They make it much more complicated.

They have a good product. But they need to get some new people to simplify the front end and then leave it alone! PLEASE!

I’ve rolled back the app on my IOS and Android devices.  System works beautifully, not a care in the world

Sorry, but I don’t know what you mean by “rolled back the app”. Could you please clarify?

Thanks.

I deleted new app and installed the old app.  Specifically I deleted V80 of the app (the black one) then downloaded and installed V16.1 (the orange one).  The process of “downloading the old app” was a bit involved but for me it was worth it
