playlists reloading over and over

all of a sudden i pick a playlist and it loads over and over.  the one on right now is 110 songs long but the queue shows about 43,000 songs.  i only have 13,000 songs in my entire library.  help?  and can anybody explain when these people are going to fix things like being able to use the alphabet to find items?

Hi @bfg1953 & @EbayYellow

I can confirm that we have identified an issue with multiple duplicates showing when adding larger playlists to the queue and are investigating. I have no estimate for when a fix might be put in place, but I will update this thread when I hear of one.

I hope this helps.

Hi @bfg1953

Welcome back to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear of this issue you are having with loading a playlist - we did identify such an issue yesterday, but it was in relation to YouTube Music, whereas it sounds like you might be using your local music library. Could you please confirm this, as if so, we will need to expand to scope of the new ticket for this issue to include sources other than YouTube Music. Thank you.

The alphabet scroller (for want of a better term) has been asked for multiple times since the new app came out - although I cannot confirm that it is planned, I personally would be surprised if it does not return at some point.

I hope this helps.

It is happening with local music libraries. My imported M3U playlists over ~100 songs are doing this.

I am using iTunes as my source, with the data stored on a external drive.   I’m screwed until it’s fixed.  And now I notice it won’t switch to other playlists.  This is awful.

Hey - update, maybe.  I just tried to play something using the windows pc app rather than the iPhone app and it seems [emphasis on seems] to work.  Should I reload the app?

Hi @bfg1953

The Sonos app on your phone? No - I don’t think that will help any.

It does seem that this issue is restricted to the mobile app, however, so using the Desktop app should work as intended, as you have discovered. The Web App may also work.

Well, that’s inconvenient but ok as a stopgap.  More info - I found that if I clear the queue I can select another playlist but it does the same thing of loading it hundreds of times - and because they’re designed to be run randomly you get repeats etc.  The app should be made to work.

Guess what - the pc app is doing the same f’g thing.  Really great work guys.  I spent a lot of money to install SONOS.  Why can’t you go back to the way it was - nobody likes the new app - it’s been a disaster.

Hi @bfg1953

Sorry - I was not aware.

If the PC app does the same thing, then the issue has nothing to do with the new app and is more to do with the speakers' software.

What does that mean?  And how does it get resolved.  Also, I was able to play albums without the queue going bonkers.

All the Sonos rep was saying is if the PC app is doing the same thing as the mobile app, then the problem lies in the firmware on the Sonos devices, not in the apps.  Not really more than informational to you, but a very important point for the engineers tasked with fixing the problem.

Ok, thanks.  Maybe a dumb question - how will I know if it’s fixed?  It’s an important issue for us - we have many playlists that we use for the holidays, dinner parties, etc., and not being able to use them is frustrating.

I have the exact issue, when I choose a youtube playlist from the sonos app or the web app it fills over and over.  For me the solution for now is to select the playlist trough Home assistant, it's the only way that work as intended. I hope it gets fixed soon because it's very annoying.

@Corry P - is there an update on this issue?  It seems that any playlist over 100 songs loads repeatedly until there are thousands of songs in the queue.  I am using playlists with my local music library.

Hi @SWeaver01

No update, I am afraid, nor is it likely that there will be one before a fix is out. I will post here when I hear of it.

I was looking for a solution of this problem ( mp3 files created from Youtube has blocked the PC and Android appliance, the playlist is allways uploading up to roughly 65000 titles, I cleanded the list but it is starting again - impossible to stop the process).

I searched in the german and french knowledgebase … nothing to find !

It is realy strange that Your community replies are not translated in only 1 community - but it seems typically for the industrial desaster that Your company has started in May 2024.

You may understand that users, after expenses for a certain number of your products, uncountless number of hours spent to resolve the different problems are ready to sell the products and to buy products from other companies.

Agree, it's my first sonos device and I'm very disappointed.

Still investigating this.  I notice if I load local music playlists using the Sonos desktop app (for Mac) this reloading of the playlist over and over doesn’t occur; however, if I load a playlist from my Sonos iPhone app, even while the desktop app is still open, the playlist reloads over and over on both apps.  Also, if I use the SonoPhone app I can’t replicate this issue at all - it works as it should.  This makes me believe the issue is with the Sonos iPhone app and not the speakers.  I hope it is resolved soon.  Until then I will use the SonoPhone app.

Seems to be the Sonos iphone app, the android app and maybe the firmware.

Hi everybody,

After some investigations, I believe that I have identified the origin of this “over and over reloading of the playlist :

  • missing codec and tag informations in the concerned mp3 files.

I have corrected ( reloaded from Youtube ) the concerned files … and now everything is working normaly, on PC as on Android App.

You can verify this missing with a tag editor ( as Mp3tag for example...).

The missing informations are probably related to the used converter ( Youtube video to mp3 file), i have had correct results with “mediahuman” converter.

I wonder that nobody from sonos staff has discovered this before …

Try it … and enjoy it - it’s free :-)

Best regards from Normandy

I’ve examined the same issue but with a total of 64815 songs…

Fact is (as per 24. Feb. 2025), when you start playing tracks from a folder (in my case NAS) using the S2 App (IOS), the list populates up to 64815 tracks…

Workaround: start the folders music by using the desktop App! Do not touch the S2 App!

After done, the S2 App will show/play the correct amount of tracks.

This is still not fixed in the latest app (80.17.14).
