Have a plantet rock subscription and use the radio app. All stations seem to cut out and then restart. It doesn’t happen on Tunein radio. I have just connected my atmos with an ethernet cable to the router, which is only 4m away as I thought it might be a wi fi issue. But its still the same.
I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. That would likely determine if the issue was on your side, or on the Planet Rock’s server.
There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.
When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
Thanks, will do. After listening on Tunein for a couple of hours, I switched back to the planet app and it has been solid for an hour our so. I just wondered if it was a known problem.
It can be a local networking issue if one service is requiring a faster data transfer rate than the other. A diagnostic, when the issue happens, can let Sonos look at your system internals when you call them with the number.
I’m having this issue at the moment really frustrating, paid for ad free subscription on planet radio. Playing it through Sonos app every 30 mins it cuts out for 4 secs.
done a reset on everything still happening. Trying to narrow it down to it being on planet radios servers rather than Sonos but hard to pin down!
The Planet Rock service on Sonos seems to have changed to something called Rayo, which seems to list all the stations previously listed under Planet Rock.
I have the ad free version which does occasionally drop out requiring a manual reconnect, and sometimes it reconnects without my intervention. For example this morning after discovering the change of service I connected to Mellow Magic which played without interruption from around 07:30 until about 11:30 when it dropped out, I then reconnected and it played then until 13:45 when I stopped the stream.
By comparison I also sometimes listen to Radio Paradise which plays without interruption for something like 8 hours and is only stopped when I decide to listen to something else.
This issue is still ongoing with me. Can’t fault Sonos support, think it lasted about 2 hours, tried lots of different things, including running from my iPhone app and iPad. Conclusion, the issue has been escalated to the next level support. Have had a couple of mails from the escalation team. My personal thoughts are this is to do with the actual planet radio app, as there is no issue with Tunein or Sonos Radio. Planet radio also cuts out when playing from the app on my iPhone. The answer will probably bin the premium membership and just put up with adverts. But I’ll hang on until Sonos get back to me as I’ve paid this months subscription to Planet Radio and Rayo
I agree that the evidence i.e. the performance of other radio streams, does seem to indicate that Planet Radio/Rayo is where the problem is.
Same issue for me, Planet Rock cuts out, Radio 2 and/or 4 (for example) don’t. Tried submitting a diagnostic just after an occurrence and the feedback was “interference”. Doesn’t make sense to me, this is only occurring on a single (that I’m aware of) stream, and not on others. Interference would affect all.
PS. My premium trial ends in 5 days, will be interesting to see if the cut outs still occur after.
I have been a subscriber to Planet Rock for nearly 2 years, it still cuts out. Interestingly the app on the phone does the same. No other streaming service cuts out on Sonos.
Well, it’s been a few days and I’ve not had a single instance of drop-outs since I went back to advert-funded Planet Rock, i.e. no premium subscription. I would hazzard a guess that the drop-outs are while authentication takes place, but that is an unfounded guess, and is really annoying still!
I have binned my subscription, which will expire the end of the month. Listening on Tuenin on Sonos, no drop outs. Just been listening through the app on my iPhone whilst rowing, it dropped at least 3 times. Its obviously a Planet rock issue.
Got a couple of drop-outs again, on the non-premium service, so my last comment may be invalid. I did make another observation though...
If I ask “Alexa” to play Planet Rock (which then initiates the connection on my Sonos) I don’t experience cut outs. When playing direct from the app or PC controller I do. I wonder how/why the streams are different? I’d be amazed if the Alexa device is acting as a buffer, but I suppose it is possible?
I’ve binned my premium prescription and haven’t noticed any drop outs since, either on the Rayo app on Sonos or my planet rock app on my iPhone.
I spoke too soon, the planet rock app without subscription keeps cutting out on my iPhone as well :)
