Question

New app defaults to one speaker

Since downloading the new app (not a fan like everyone else it seems), my system defaults to one speaker. The backyard speaker. It’s not a huge deal to turn that one off and switch it to the speaker I want but is there a fix somewhere in the app?

I am having the same problem. It always defaults to one speaker, even after I’ve been playing music on others. I’ll go to change to volume and only the single speaker is checked, yet it shows the music playing on the others. When I uncheck the “default” and check the others, I have to hit play again. It’s an easy fix but annoying.

also what happened to the mute button for one speaker??

Same default issues as above as well as speakers intermittently not appearing on Airplay since update.

Thank god Sonos is actively monitoring this stream as well as the other streams regarding this topic….not

Also,

Has anyone experienced Sonos disconnecting your mobile device from your WiFi network while using the Sonos app?

I don’t even know if that is possible but after the update I have been having intermittent WiFi disconnections/instability when using Sonos, just seems strangely coincidental

Same problem here.    Last app was bad, this one is annoying.

The speaker selection is terrible in the new app, I think Sonos doesn’t understand how users use the app or speakers. The initial decision I make is the speaker and then the music. The new app doesn’t allow you to do that without unselecting speakers, and then half the time I am starting music in one speaker only to have to group and ungroup to get to the speaker I want.

if there is a better way to use the app, please let the group know.

just a terrible experience and have just started using Airplay instead.

I have the same issue. The app defaults to the first device in the list. Very annoying. I’ve scared the crap out of the kids twice now.

Sonos, UAT.

The update is not fit for purpose.

The new app update is awful. Sonos please come out with an update with fixes or I am going to look for a better system. Old app wasn’t perfect, but more user friendly and functional than the update.

I have the same issue.  Always defaults to the first on list.  When I designate a different speaker and de-disignate the default (and hist “apply”), the default device still appears.  Sonos told me “that is they way the system is designed” so no way to fix unless Sonos decides to do so

Hey Andy,

Yes it’s crazy but evidently Sonos had the “brilliant” idea to default the speakers in alphabetical order, in the update, after we renamed the speaker we wanted it to default to by just adding an A to the beginning of the speaker name and it now directs to that one first.

Thanks Bill.  At least that is a start.  Right now it’s defaulting to my outdoor speakers.  I’m sure the neighbors are thrilled.

Same issue.
1) I select speaker then content

  1. when I remove the “default” there is all sorts of lag updating so no idea where it playing.

Please fix

Same issue here. Seemingly every time I try to search for new music and immediately tries to default to my basement speaker, which is really really annoying. There’s really no reason to default to a specific speaker. It used to be that whatever speaker was selected when you last left the app would be where you searched for music and where the music would play.

They really need to fix this. It’s getting really annoying.

This isn’t a feature, this is a bug. It needs fixing, I shouldn’t have to rename my speakers and pre-fix with numbers to avoid scaring the kids. The old app defaulted to last played group which worked pretty well, and if I wanted to not do that I could choose which speaker I wanted to use, that’s good UX, defaulting to alphabetically first speaker is just poor programming!

Agreed, if this is design then they should be fired. Poor QA that let this get through and careless decision to release this ‘upgrade’. Makes me pause future purchases until this is fixed. Headphones are nice but not with this poor UX.

Agree, my purchases now on hold until I see the next significant upgrade, not just fixing the rubbish they let through this time.

we have all 1* reviewed the app and explained the issues with the latest version on the app stores where it’s publicly visible haven’t we?

Good idea. Leaving review now. Silly that I’m renaming speakers to not start music into basement - everytime I change a song!
