Has there been any traction with a party mode or jukebox function within the app?

Did you find what you were looking for?

What is “party mode” or “jukebox function”?
Isnt it the case that anyone on your network with the Sonos app can control your system? Or AirPlay to it…

Beyond the ‘randomize a playlist’ mode that already exists, I’m not aware of any. Not sure how easy it would be to implement it, either, seems like the idea would be low on the priority list, if it exists at all, right now. They seem to have a lot left that needs to be ‘fixed’ to get back to parity with the old app. Ike assume anything beyond that, such as your ‘party mode’, would be after that.

Hi nik9669a,

it would be nice if we could say open the app on an IPad and have the ability for people to select a song that is added to the queue with out the ability to play now and override the current song, and if no song has been selected the queue could pick from a pre selected playlist. Volume control locked etc. just like an old style jukebox that you use to select songs on in a pub etc. I only ask as it was mentioned many years ago.

After a few beers there is always somebody who wipes the whole queue just by tapping a song of preference.

Apple Music is configured so that tapping a song simply starts playing the song and the queue will remain as it was. When the end of queue is reached Apple Music continue adding songs based on relevance of earlier selections or user’s music taste. That is smart and it is quite common that you will find ”new” music through this feature. So if Sonos engineers need assistance in design they can simply copy the functionality of Apple Music queue and integrate that to Sonos.

One method could be also to add a pop up every time a song is tapped asking would you like to a) Play next, b) Add to queue, c) ”Some other option”?

And if the software engineers would care to think this feature for a minute or two - smart phones and other control devices have many possible gestures avoiding unnecessary and possibly frustrating popups:

Tapping and holding a song will play next, tapping adds to queue?

There you go, You’re welcome! Feature designed ready for you. Now all you need is to update your software and I am quite sure thousands of users will be thankful.

Sometimes it feels like the software engineers at Sonos do not use their own products at all. Even service integrations have a lot of issues and since the whole system is based on user experience through software it amazes me how ignorant / unaware Sonos can be towards this fact. Premium speakers - below standard UX.

However I wouldn’t hold my breath on this update because Sonos has very similar attitude / interest towards customer feedback as Apple: ”It’s not a bug, it’s a feature and we know what’s best for you - shut up.” (Best example of having finally a calculator on iPad OS after over a decade. Next in line to have Whatsapp on iPad - maybe 2035 if Whatsapp exists anymore.)
