When things first started going wrong I was hopeful it would soon be fixed. But here we are months later and it still does not work. I’ve been using Sonos since 2006.
I have two surround systems which I used with Apple TVs. I’ve managed to sell my other speakers but occasionally I like to listen to music without the TV … and it’s simply too frustrating now.

The Sonos app works, and is just a remote control for the system anyway.  Your problems are almost certainly nothing t do with the app, but caused by something to do with your particular Sonos installation or network.  You need to give us much more info if you want help on here, or call Sonos Support.  If you wait for something generic to be “fixed” so that your issue goes away, then you will wait foreverr.

@maynard,
The Sonos mobile App is working here. If it’s just not working for you, and you have installed the latest software and firmware, then you perhaps are best to speak to Sonos customer support. Here is the link to contact them:

It was all working perfectly until the app changed. It also works flawlessly with Sonophone. The problem is the app.

I appreciate what you’re saying. I have contacted them and there is nothing they can do. The problem is not the equipment or my network. The problem is how the app now connects to Apple Music. It is as slow as wading through treacle. Every time I open the app it spends time downloading artwork etc. so I am initially presented with a series of grey squares that take time to download. This artwork rarely changes on the Home Screen. It should be cached to speed things up. I paid for a third party app and clearly this app caches artwork as it instantly appears. However, I’d rather have the official app working.

I’ve been using Sonos for many years. In the early days there was a dedicated device for accessing music. However, this was in the days before streaming services. Everything was working flawlessly until this new app was released. I told my wife and others not to worry - they’ll quickly fix it. But that hasn’t happened. It’s so frustrating that they ruined a perfectly good setup.

Is music playing ok?

So this is what I see with the Apple Music service in the new Sonos App when opening the App from a fully closed state (I’m using an iPad here, but have an iPhone controller that works okay too) - the below was recorded a few moments ago.

Is that (or something similar) what you are seeing, or are you seeing issues when viewing/playing from the in-built AM service?

This is what I see on an iPhone controller - again its launching the App from a fully closed state and playing the same playlist from Apple Music….

Today after coming back from a Client I found that my app doesn’t recognise my system yet Alexa and Spotify do.  Imagine the Phone calls……..  CR100’s again

Thanks for posting those.

Yours is perhaps a little faster to load than mine, but basically this is what I see. Grey squares where album covers should be until they slowly resolve. The Apple Music app itself loads album art instantly. Third party apps such as the amazing Marvis do too. Why can the Sonos App not do so?

There is also significant latency starting, stopping and skipping to the next track in playlists. When you press play on the Phil Collins album above, I count about 7 to 10 seconds for it start. That’s just not acceptable to me. I do not see this latency on the Mac Sonos App either. When I pressed play on my CD player back in the 80’s the music started right away. It should be like that … and before the new app it was.

Today - after the app update - I did a little experiment. To change from one Apple Music track to another is taking about 20 seconds (loading playlist and pressing play) on the official Sonos app. On SonoPhone playlists load instantly. Process takes about 8 seconds.

It's Nov and I still have massive lag and connectivity problems with this app. So bad.

Indications of local network issues, not controller code issues,  but you haven’t provided enough information to suggest where they might be. Have you called Sonos Support directly to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

I contacted sonos this morning again, they told me that the december update will fix a lot of issues…

I hope..

I noticed last week that my set up Sonos Beam, Sub & 2 Era L & R Speakers had disconnected from the Sonos App.  Phoned Sonos Tech.  I was advised to disconnect HDMI from Optical Audio Adapter and connect to HDMI Arc.  I explained the use of the Optical Auto Adapter was advised during original setup from Sonos Tech and had been operating with no issues for a over a year..

I noticed when connected to HDMI Arc port when switching on TV there was a 15/20 second delay in receiving audio.

I spoke with Sonos Tech earlier today.  Following a diagnostic check the connection to HDMI Arc port was not picked up.

I reverted to original setup with optical connection and removed Ethernet cable from Beam.  All systems are go go go with fantastic sound.
I downloaded Sonos App to my iPhone 12 Pro Max and TruePlay worked perfectly with no issues. Hope this helps.

My issue is that on iPone and iPad. the item for “Your Sources” only appears for the room for my TV with PlayBar.  This is becasue it only has “TV” as an option and does not display “Music Library”  The Music Library is there, and works perfectly from the Windows desktop app.  Perversly, if I launch Music from the Windows app, I can fully control it (Pause/Resume/Skip forward/Skip back) from my mobile apps - but selecting “Detect Music Library” on the mobile devices just tells me that it can’t be found.

If that defect - and it IS a defect not a “slight glitch” - is fixed then i will have a relatively happy holiday period.  But I’m not holding my breath becassue when I speak to Sonos they just confirm that it is a “known issue” and that they are “actively working on addressing this issue” and that they “do not currently have an ETA on when this will be fixed”😔

Sonos Tech told me last week that Sonos App TruePlay would not work with iPad models with latest iOS software 18.01. Well I have it on my iPhone and it works. Maybe they have found a solution..  I was also informed that I had to use Ethernet cable to Beam as there was an issue with EE WiFi extenders.  I take it this has now been resolved as I removed the Ethernet cable and everything is working fine.

Hope you find a solution soon.

I used to love Sonos and now I really can’t say the same.  Ever since they changed and made the software awful my speakers don’t always show up, my library isn’t always there, and even playing music from Apple Music is spotty.  I don’t even understand how one upgrade can cause so many problems.   Also, I have two Sonos Amps connected hardwired that barely show up.   Please please please fix this.  I have a lot of Sonos gear and spent a lot of money and time to get this working and this beyond frustrating.

I have spent over a thousand dollars having rooms cat5 cabled to improve the latency and unreliability since the new app. The result isolates the problem around the app and the cloud connections to the various services, which respond more slowly than they did before.

The most persistent problem is... persistence. In the sense that I will load the app while the system is playing something and it will take up to 20 seconds get the groupings of products and what is playing at the time.

One thing I've noticed is that my third-party (Lutron) play/pause buttons are actually more responsive and reliable with play/pause commands than the Sonos app itself. Despite them also using an internet API for control.

Looking at some earlier comments in this thread, and the videos of the app loading, there seem to be disagreements about what is a reasonable amount of time for the various icons to populate. I don't understand is why that needs to be the experience in any sense. When I load the desktop app, it doesn't take a few seconds to load each icon or service. It's there.

The new app behaves every time as if it's the first time it's been opened.

A me too post…

I have 8 Sonos speakers, the first of which I purchased in 2017. Initial configuration was a bit tricky, but once that was completed, I had no issues at all. At some point approximately 2 years ago, things started not working.

Here are some of the problems I have been experiencing since that time:

- Delays of up to 10 seconds between making a change in the app and it being reflected in the devices.
- Speakers repeatedly disappearing and reappearing in the system.
- When changing volume, the setting usually reverts to it's previous value. It can take several attempts before the volume setting "sticks"
- App usually opens up with "system not found"

Once the system is set to my liking, it is extremely stable and I rarely have glitches. The issues are all within the app. It feels like it has extremely poor connectivity to the hardware.

It’s a shame that a company with such good products ruins the experience with their terrible app. It is not user friendly and complete trash.

I have been a Sonos user for 7 years and own several pieces of equipment. While I know some users are to blame for their issues, the app is a mess.  Issues include: lag or issues loading songs from streams services like YouTube music 2) system lag when loading app and message saying system not found or add new system 3) issues with adding speakers to other groupings 4) sorry try again messages. Of course these could probably be described better by others. The feedack from users is clear not only on this forum but also on App Store for apple users. Today my wife and kids asked me what I want for Christmas. I almost asked for a new Sonos product but instead I said “I would just like my Sonos app to work and not have issues.” They could tell I was really sad..

Has anyone read the recent Wired article? It states that Sonos is now forcing music playback via their soundcloud and not directly from your phone. Wired speculates that this is a way to force customers to pay a subscription in the near future. I’m sure that’s why my music playback stops so frequently and needs to be manually restarted.
