How stable has your Sonos system been over time?

I’ve been using my Sonos setup for a while now.
Overall it works well, but I’ve had a few connection dropouts here and there.
Nothing constant, just occasional issues that need a restart.
I was curious if others have had a similar experience or if it’s been fully stable for you.

There was just one time when I had connection issues and that was when I tried to use a pair of powerline adapters to connect a Sonos speaker to my network. Called support and they recommended I remove it and it worked.

My network was configured so that I could have one or more speaker’s hardwired. I never have to reboot my network because of connection issues. Even when the new app was released, besides the removal of some features, I had a few hours where the volume  did not work right. It sorted itself out because I didn’t do anything to fix it. I use the app exclusively with music services and my local library.

Unlike some users, I cannot complain about anything with my speakers.. except, I want more but can’t afford it right now!

Thanks for sharing your experience.
That’s helpful to know about the wired setup and powerline adapters.
It sounds like keeping things simple made a big difference for stability.
I’ll keep that in mind if connection issues become more frequent.

In the approx. 15 years I have had SONOS it has worked 98% of the time, there are very few problems/challenges I have had and these were resolved quite easily and quickly.
However, I have had some challenges with Airplay lately, the playback stops/loses signal. Then I have to reconnect before it will play again. Unfortunately, I have not found a solution to the problem at the moment.

I ran into issues for months after the May 2024 update, and it still isn’t as stable for me as it was before.

I’ve been a user for over a decade, currently with over 20 S2 devices, with no issues to report.

Sonos owner for 18 years.  Through 2 moves and several new routers, aside from the missing features from the faulty May 24 update, never had a problem, even with connectivity.  Note:  My system has had reserved IP addresses since shortly after installing back in 2008, and I switched to SMB v3.0 on my local library as soon as that version was supported.

Owner since 2018. Never had much trouble, but from the beginning of August until October 2025  I could not get any music service to work via the Sonos app - Spotify Connect did work as a work around. This problem seems to have cleared by itself, now only Plex will not give me anything.

Long term owner.

Before May 2024 my system just worked.

Since then I get issues on a regular basis, Subjectively the issues are becoming less frequent but the experience is still not as good as it was and there is nothing more annoying than getting up in the morning to find I can’t just enjoy listening to music.

That said, I have never adopted the sledgehammer approach of resetting speakers or powering everything off for a “clean start” and I do not reserve IP addresses because if Sonos want us to use static addresses they should allow us to configure them properly. I did spend a couple of weeks powering off a Beam that was dropping the Era 100 Surrounds and Sub Mini after a firmware update a problem that went away after the next update.

My personal approach to the continued instability is don’t buy more Sonos and be patient with what I have. I suspect that some of the users for whom things are really bad are causing problems trying to solve problems but as long as you've checked your network then in my experience the best approach is to wait for Sonos to sort itself out.

Old timer here with 20 years of Sonos in the house, my background is however networking and apart from the missing features issues my Sonos system has been 100%.

My Sonos system only uses WiFi.

User since 2015. No network is perfect 100% of the time. However mine is rock solid 98.9999% of the time. 😂

My system consists of 31 Sonos units.  Network is Asus WiFi 7 AiMesh with three routers using a wired backhaul. No wired speaker's or switches. I’ve upgraded routers and changed ISP’s over the years without issues.

What works for me is that I keep the same SSID and Password whenever I make changes. I only use the ISP’s modem to bring the internet into my home otherwise I own and configure my network.

All WiFi bands use the same SSID and router does not employ client band steering. Airtime Fairness is turned off. My network may host as many as 60 clients at any given time.

FYI, many will not recommend using Asus routers. I’ve had very good success with Asus network gear.

IMO, most issues with Sonos that are not determined to be Sonos hardware or software related are due to network configuration, WiFi interference and/or network gear that require extensive tweaking to work with Sonos. However the latter is less  prevalent today.

Once I set static/reserved addresses for all Sonos things have been mostly good

Added a couple new Sonos and moved one, then ended up with interference issues. Sonos got it sorted, the two new ones were too close together and the moved one was less than a foot from one on the other side of the wall it was against. Moving them a bit got everything stable again.

Thanks for sharing this. That’s a good point about interference. I’ll try assigning static IPs to my Sonos devices and also check their physical placement, as some of them might be too close together. Hopefully adjusting the distance will help improve stability.
