When I play music from a Pandora station, Sonos shows the song title “on Napster” instead of “on Pandora”.  What has changed?

Contolav,

As I noted, I'm not a dev. I will do the delete/ re-install. I'll be curious since she has never had anything containing Napster on her phone and we have never had a napster account on our phones or anywhere else.

Also, so many others having the same bad data seems statistically unlikely unless Sonos provided it.

Can your windows Sonos app run our older products along with our play 5 and play one? I wouldn't mind having a better Sonos interface on our laptop.

Thanks for offering a possible fix.

Oh yeah, all my apps run on all Sonos hardware. I even have a Play:3 deliberately frozen at version 6.2 to make sure I don’t accidentally break old systems.

The mapping of music services to icons (and names) is not done in the app itself: the app downloads configuration data from sonos.com that maps music service ids to icons (among other things). There are also different icons for different device types (eg Desktop icons are round pngs, iPhone are square svgs). My theory is that this data (for S1) went awry for a period of time, and your wife’s phone pulled it down at this time. The data is fixed now, but I am guessing the cache on your wife’s phone is stale, and not updating for some reason. Forcing a clean uninstall/reinstall should get the new, accurate data.

Hi @AustinJerry

@Jamie A

Jamie, we haven’t heard from you for a while.  Any update on getting this issue resolved?

Apologies for not having an update for you. Like @Stanley_4 suggested, our engineers were on holiday so I haven’t had any update. I was also out for a few days, and had nothing extra to share on the days I was here.

Just to let you and the others know in this thread, I’ve shared the diagnostics you’ve provided with the team. If I hear of any changes or updates to this issue then I’ll post them here.

Thank you all for your patience during this time.

Anyone hear from Sonos yet?

Hi @Wally Plahutnik

I do have an update to share on this after hearing back from our engineers recently. They’ve let me know that they’ve identified the issue and implemented a fix, however it’s not been deployed yet. I don’t have a specific date, but they’re planning to release it early this year as a software update. From what I can share (and in layman’s terms), when the app requested the logo it wasn’t getting everything it needed back, so it was picking the wrong config/logo file. Pretty much what others in this thread figured was happening.

Thanks to those who shared diagnostics, it definitely helped with the troubleshooting process. I’ll keep this thread open for now and if I get anything more concrete for a date then I’ll reply there with the info. For now, I would say keep an eye out for any updates and perform them when they’re available.

Thanks. Everything works, just shows Napster instead of Pandora. I'd bet Imperial Credits it is a joke by a departed coder. With the dumpster fire currently raging in Sonos' C-Suite it's certainly a low corporate priority.

I've always wondered why Westergren chose "Pandora", a name synonymous with literally all the troubles in the world over Music Genome Project.

I’m surprised it takes a software update by the user to fix the issue since a software update wasn’t needed to get the corrupt data in the first place.
I'm sure there are others out there who are not updating Sonos at all to avoid all the other issues.
this relatively small issue is just a sign that nothing has really changed at Sonos. Poorly test changes are rolled out to production and no one around to fix problems when they come up.
not a good sign for the long term viability of the company.

Here we are into the first week in February and still no resolution to the issue.  It is difficult to understand why fixing the problem can be taking so much time.

As a guess, because there are multiple bugs being worked on, and this one may not have the highest priority, since the audio plays properly, it’s just the visual information that is incorrect? Not to mention the RIF at Sonos, or the fix, QA testing, and then scheduling for release times involved.

Is there a solve for this? It happens all the time and it is not ideal.

Hi @AustinJerry et al,

I’ve checked with our engineers and they’ve let me know this should be resolved. Can anyone who still has this issue make sure they’re running the latest app version and speaker firmware? If you open the Sonos app and go to Settings → System → About My System, the version should be “57.22-61300”.

If the app doesn’t show this version, make sure you’re up to date by checking checking if there are any updates available on your App Store, as well as performing the update through the Sonos app. If anyone is still having the issue, can you provide screenshots of the app showing you running the latest version and another with the issue still occuring.

I hope this helps!

I am running on the “build” 572261300, the version shows 11.15.2. I run S1 app.

Still goes to Napster.

Still showing “Napster”.  I am running an S1 system, and the version numbers are shown below.

Moderator edit: Removed serial numbers and Sonos ID from pictures

My system still changes from Pandora to Napster, and the song selections Napster make are not appropriate.

I will need to make some change in how I listen to music by the end of the month if Sonos does not resolve this issue.

Hi @AustinJerry and @TT62SRQ,

Thanks for letting me know and for the screenshots.

The version numbers you have on your end are the latest and, according to my details, this should be resolved. I’m following up with the team for more information on this but don’t have anything to share right now. As usual, if I do hear anything I’ll let you know.

My system still changes from Pandora to Napster, and the song selections Napster make are not appropriate.

As far as I’m aware, the issue of this thread is only visual, where the app incorrectly displays Napster instead of Pandora. If you’re noticing other behaviour, are you able to provide a screenshot or screen recording so I can reach out to the team with this?

will try, but the songs are definitely not being selected by pandora. I listen to pandora through other mediums than sonos and the music selection is wonderful. When on Sonos and it “only visual” shows Napster, the music selection is terrible.

I logged this issue with Pandora, since I will cancel my pandora account OR sell my Sonos system in the next few weeks - my annual renewal for pandora subscription is approaching.

No updates? Soon will be making some hard choices about what system I use and what streaming music service I use. Sorry Sonos seems to be not able to resolve this issue.
