Seems I still cannot use the Sonos app to find artist albums in full. Is this just me. I really miss the old app...

Hello @Alienated UK, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with artist albums not showing complete in the Sonos App.

As there is not much information to go on from here, allow me to share a few things:

  • If this issue appears in your Music Library, then it might be a problem with the metadata of the tracks listed in the albums.
Please have a look at our recent Music Library Metadata change at the article below:
  • If it’s an issue with a Music Service, can you please share a screenshot with an example so that I can try and reproduce?
You can remove and then re-add the Music Service as a troubleshooting step. Force-close the Sonos App and re-open or even a controller (smartphone/tablet) reboot can help.

If you are still experiencing this, you’re always welcome to get in touch with our Support Team for more in-depth troubleshooting - they have access to more tools and will be able to perform live troubleshooting with you.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Sotiris C.

Thanks for your reply. I’ll take another look when I get a chance and read the info on the linked article as well. I’m not that tech savvy so trying to navigate through is challenging. For example I have no idea what “metadata” is or what it does and to be fair a significant amount of the articles I have read are beyond my understanding.

I’ll post again in time and once again, thank you for taking the time to respond and try to help.

What they mean by metadata is data that is no part of the real music. So in this case it would be music tags.

Generally music has tags like artist, album title, song title, track number etc.

What Sonos has implemented for “compilation albums” (more than one artist) is the support of the “Album Artist” tag.

Lets say you have an album Easy Rider (soundtrack)

So pick a name for the Album Artist (eg. Like “Various”) and add  a tag

Album Artist = “Various” to every track on the album.

Album:  “Easy Rider soundtrack”

Album: Artist “Various”

Track: “02”

Title: “Born to be Wild”

Artist: “Steppenwolf”

When your library is “Scanned for New Content” You will be able to Find the album and list all the artists.

There are many Music Tagger Apps (even free ones like Metabrainz Picard, mp3tag...)

So pick one for you system - Windows, Linux, Android, Apple…

Ciao

You can use any name you like for the Album Artist. If you chose “Soundtrack” (for example) then you could use soundtrack as an artist to list all soundtrack songs. I wouldn’t use a “real artist” for a name.
