Ever since the app “redo” a basic function has been missing when playing podcasts via the Sonos app:  the ability to fast forward in 30-second and rewind in 15-second increments.

I’ve read that Sonos thinks this is not necessary because one can ask the Sonos voice assistant to fast forward or rewind.  There are two key reasons why this does not work well: 1) it assumes one has Sonos voice assistant enabled on every speaker and 2) it takes longer than tapping an icon.

I’ve also read that Sonos says we can just drag the timestamp to where we want.  True, but 30-second increments are perfect for skipping ads in podcasts and it’s difficult to be that precise with a slider.

Hi @SchubertFan

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

Any update on this? I’ve given up listening to books and podcasts on Sonos (I’m using the audible and other apps instead), due to the lack of this critical feature. The version 2 app has been out for long enough that this should have been incorporated. I’d like to add an additional Sonos speaker to my bedroom - but without this feature there’s little point in doing so.

@DaveWhoAmI

Feature requests seem to be very binary. They either result in implementation if the dev team considers it something that many customers will use, or they never see the light of day. The feature request list must be vast and it’s rare to see something implemented. So checking for an update after one month is optimistic. It could be many months or years, if at all.

I’m also using the Sonos app less and less.  I honestly don’t see myself buying another Sonos product — I’ll continue to use and enjoy what I have, but when/if they become obsolete I have no plans to replace them.  If anyone at Sonos cares to know why, it’s because basic functionality with Google assistant is very poor after the companies’ legal battles, the new app roll out was awful, and after all this time basic functions are still missing from the app.

Um, every other audio/video play I have incorporates this feature. Is was also present in your previous (S1) version. There are also numerous discussions on Reddit discussing the need for this feature. “many months or years” - so you’re basically saying this isn’t going to happen. Hm. I’ll not be purchasing any additional Sonos products. And my advice to others will be: “Sonos makes great hardware, but using their systems requires their software, which lacks essential features. You should also research the S1 to S2 software debacle before purchasing.”

@DaveWhoAmI

Not sure if you're replying to me, but I don’t work for Sonos. I’m a forum member, like you, just voicing an opinion/observation.

Apologies Rhonny; I thought you were part of the Sonos team.

No problem. Those who work for Sonos tend to have a Sonos logo as their avatar, and it will say Sonos Staff next to their name. (By the way, I’d love to see skip 30 sec and go back 15 secs implemented across Sonos, not just for podcasts. If it was there before for podcasts, they may bring it back...)

Good luck everyone.  There are 10 year old requests for this feature.  Sonos don’t care.  The apps on all platforms suck and connectivity has always been spotty.

Feature request:  What’s an alternative sound system?

That was never in dispute, and was referred to in the original post…
