Would love the ability to play my sources with zero coloration from the Sonos DSP - Current setup is

  • Stream Apple Music through Sonos App
  • Stream FLACs from Windows Share via Plex or Sonos Music Library
  • Have turntable connected to Line-in on Sonos 5 stereo pair
  • Have CD player connected to other line-in on the Sonos 5 pair

My understanding is no matter what I do, Sonos DSP will add some ‘colorization’ and I am not getting the cleanest truest sound from the audio sources

Is the any activity to allow for users to defeat the DSP built in?  If not, is there a technical reason as to why not, or is it more “Sonos is designed to be really plug & play and Trueplay is good enough for 99% of users’

Would also be nice to have control over more than just bass/treble - any plans to add an in app EQ?

I know with KEF LS line of powered speakers no such DSP is mandated so it’s def possible

Whilst these may be some valid requests they are , nonetheless, pretty niche and I cannot imagine Sonos would consider these.

It is not required that Line-In be equalized before being sent to the network. Individual SONOS active speakers will include some individual driver equalization in order to provide a more uniform output. You can make a similar comment about any multi-driver passive speaker from any manufacturer. The speaker’s crossover adjusts the output of each driver in order to provide the desired response.

A SONOS AMP, for example, can pass Line-In straight through to passive speakers and make the input available to other SONOS players on the network.

The reality is that Living Rooms, Bedrooms, Kitchens, etc. can do rather brutal things to audio. Equalization might help, but it should be “Parametric” equalization, not a simple bass, mid, treble (or more) segments. Very few users have the skills and instrumentation required to deal with properly setting up a Parametric equalizer. Trueplay can often do a credible job very quickly, but because of its simplicity for the user, it is not perfect. In almost all cases the physical room needs improvements.

Do not all electronics provide some coloration?
