After the new app update in May 2024, I can no longer play Apple Music on speakers.  I have reauthorized the service numerous times.  What happens is I can browse to a specific song, and when I hit play, it attempts to play for 5-10 seconds and then stops.  On a playlist after hitting play, it will try to play the first 4-5 songs for 5 seconds each, shipping then to the get one, and then finally cycling back to the first song in the play list and stopping.  No sound ever comes out in either case.  Sonos radio, Amazon music, TuneIn are all working just fine.  It’s specific only to Apple Music.    Any troubleshooting assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I’m having this exact issue. It’s a bummer because I just bought an Era 100 and 300 today and neither will play using apple music. As @maccore2 says above, I can find the album or song I want to play, and when I hit play, it will try to play it for a couple seconds before moving to the next song, then the next, etc. No music plays, just keeps cycling titles for a bit. Am I really stuck listening to Sonos Radio?!

Nice to know I’m not alone @Kuobot!  Haven’t had any luck on resolving yet.

having the same issue here. bumped on it by accident. Mainly use my setup to watch tv, so no issues detected. Today i wanted to playback a album from Apple Music.. and there i got stuck..

Sonos, please fix this.

UPDATE: The issue resolved itself yesterday. The only difference was that there was an iphone update, but I’m now able to use apple music. Try doing the latest iphone update and see if that works. There is a reddit thread on this same exact issue and someone else posted that after a couple days, their issue resolved. Not sure why though.

I’m still stuck. I have the latest iOS on my phone and Sonos app but Apple Music freezes within three tracks. It takes a router hard reset to free it up. I can Bluetooth to a Move and stream AM but it won’t run through their interface. Anyone else experiencing this and what’s the fix (if any?)

Same problem where Apple Music will constantly skip through tracks and never play. Can play via Bluetooth and other services. It’s an Apple Music problem. Sonos and iOS are both current. Just bought Move2 and stuck listening to Sonos Radio or Amazon. Needs a fix!!

Hi, I managed to stream AM for about an hour today and then it froze again. The only way I can get out of the frozen state is to hard reset my router.

I’m in U.K. and called the help line yet again and got a 55 minute wait time. Totally unacceptable.

As a community I’m asking if we think this woeful scenario and broken product will ever be resolved?

Yesterday I could stream Apple Music stations but not any specific playlists, albums, artists. Obviously not ideal but guessing this is because you can’t skip songs on an Apple Music station. I hard reset my modem and router without success. Agree - I hope they can give a fix to the many Sonos users on Apple Music. 🥲

So I had exactly same issue when adding a new Era 300 into my setup. All other music services played on the speaker and. Apple Music worked fine in all other rooms on different speakers. Interestingly if I grouped the speaker with another room Apple Music played until you ungrouped it then it stopped.

Tried like the others in this thread to re-authorise, removed Apple Music completely and re added still no joy.

I have managed to resolve the issue.

So I simply factory reset the speaker to drop it out of the system then re added it back into the system and it worked straight away.

Hope this works for others too.

Just tried the factory re-set and didn’t work.  Having the exact same issue that you have.  I can play from the Sonos App Apple Music on the other Play 1 speakers I have and if I add the ERA 100 to any of the other speakers it works… but the moment you disconnect the Play 1 the Era plays for 3 seconds and then stops.  Any one else had any luck in just doing the factory re-set or anything else….

Same issue with an Era 100. I’ve reinstalled Sonos, updated iOS, and factory reset the speaker multiple times. The issue coincided with the recent Sonos app upgrade.

Interestingly, I can (very temporarily) fix the problem by playing any music from Sonos Radio, and then switching back to Apple Music. I’ll then typically get one or two songs because the music cuts out again.

Help. Same issue

@shawnb : I’ve seen various threads on Reddit reporting the same issue, so it seems pretty widespread. I haven’t seen any solution, so I guess we all just have to hope that Sonos fixes the issue with their next software update.

For what it’s worth, my Sonos was rock solid with the Apple service until the last big “update” and has been unusable since then. Le sigh…

Same issue with new Beam Gen 2

So an update on my system for what it’s worth. I spent some time updating everything. Latest iOS app, speakers etc. Reset all the system powering it all off and cycled the router. Initialised it all and tried Apple Music and it worked for an hour or so and then it just stopped. Completely frozen.

If I reset the router it’ll play again for one or two streamed music tracks and then it freezes again.

I’ve also tried Spotify and that does the same thing.

I have a couple of Moves with Bluetooth and if I connect my phone to one of them I can stream any music seamlessly so it’s nothing to do with my internet connection.

Has anyone found a solution to the freezing? Is anyone able to stream music through Sonos? HELP!

@GC9000 : For whatever it’s works, Sonos Radio does stream with no problem on my system, but still no love with the Apple Music streaming. I’ve also tried everything: factory reset on the speakers, router reset, reconnecting Apple Music, different iOS devices. Nothing works.

I haven’t yet tried Spotify.

If I find a solution, I’ll post on this thread.

Thanks for replying and confirming that it’s not just me. I too can stream radio but nothing else.

Are we the only two Sonos users who continue to have this issue?

I have Apple, Amazon and Spotify subs and none of them work.

I researched alternative iOS controller apps but didn’t find anything. Does anyone out there have a solution?

I can’t believe we’re going through this sh@t storm of a useless piece of kit. I was happy with the previous app. At least it worked and was intuitively navigable.

Unfortunately excellent sound but buggy tech has been the norm for Sonos for many years.  I have been down the same road looking for alternative controllers and patiently listented to everyone that says to contact support and wait for an hour on hold and then spend the next hour doing all the steps recommended here on the forums.  Fortunately the largest bugs are eventually fixed with updates, but this is unacceptable for something that should just work out of the box.  And when they decide to deprecate an old line (like the Play3), forget about getting any reasonable help at all in lieu of ‘just buy a new one’.  If it weren’t for the great sound I would have switched to something else years ago.  Sorry for complaining and not being able to offer any additional options at this point, just wanted to say that your frustration is not lost on those that are in the same situation.

I am having the same issue with my Era100. Sonos radio works fine. But with Apple music,  the app indicates it's  playing a song but no song is coming out.  Prior to this (the last week or two) my apple music songs were stopping intermittently. These issues coincides with the update. I echo the sentiment of others who have invested in Sonos and are a bit disappointed at all the headaches and effort it takes to keep the music playing. I hope this thread prompts a response from Sonos or a solution from the expert users.

An update on my system:

i finally got through to tech support using their callback facility. I was sceptical but they did eventually return my call. The tech was very helpful and seemed to know what was going on!

They immediately asked me to run a diagnostic to check my system config.

It was a long call and the crux of it was to change the primary speaker in my grouping.

I currently have two Sonos 1s and two Moves grouped together throughout the house. I had one of the 1s as the primary unit. After making one of the Moves primary and grouping the rest after that, it worked for the rest of the day streaming both Apple Music and Spotify.

During playback, every now and then, the 1s drop out and randomly switch back on. Not ideal but at least I was able to stream music again.

There are clearly issues with the mesh WiFi configs now with speakers that prior to the update worked perfectly. All very disappointing and frankly unacceptable but right now I’m pleased to have some music playing that I can choose rather than just radio.

Not being a particularly tech person, I’m confused that radio streams seamlessly with no speaker dropouts in any group config but AM & Spotify streaming are so sensitive. I guess future updates will fix this?

I mentioned the loss of my NAS drive support and the tech advised me to investigate PLEX as an alternative. I’m yet to do this.

In summary, if you’re having freezing issues with AM etc, try deselecting your grouped speakers, all except one that’s lower in the group list (and maybe closest to your router) and apply that one only. Then select the rest of the speakers and apply them to the group. This will change the order in which they appear in the group list and the first speaker in your group will have changed order. Evidently, the first speaker in the group is the primary communicator back to the router and needs a strong signal!

I hope this helps a few of you out there. GC

Glad you had some success with Support. You’re right - they do know what they are talking about when you actually get someone; it just takes commitment, time and patience.  Plex has worked fine for me as a NAS over the years, as long as it is on the same network.  If you use VLANs, Sonos does not always play nice with multicasting on some routers/switches so keep that in mind if you run into issues.  On another note (and not surprisingly) my Beam started working last night after an update for a seemingly unrelated Amp in the other room.  Thank you for taking the time to follow up with what worked, even if only partially.

Had the same issue on just one of my 4 devices.
After Renaming the room of that device - AppleMusic startet playing

My system is still very flakey all round. I’ve renamed, reinstalled, updated, changed channels, rebooted, changed control devices, called support etc etc etc. I run two Moves and two Ones and I think the Ones are troublesome. If I get a system freeze I can sometimes clear it by disabling the Ones. Sometimes the Moves then spark into life (but not always)

The app freezes a lot despite having the latest versions of Sonos app, IoS and speaker firmware. This morning it was playing until the app decided to tell me that I wasn’t connected to a system and to start again from scratch. Go figure!?

When will Sonos fix this shocking mess?

I have downloaded and started to use SonoPhone as an alternative to the Sonos controller app. It was easy to setup and it appears to be more reliable, but it’s early days.

I have the same issue. I have only one speaker, a Sonos Era 300, which I purchased a month ago. At the beginning, everything was working like a charm with no issues and fast response from Apple Music. However, two weeks ago something happened and I started experiencing the same issues as described above. The music breaks, skips, or doesn't play any sound at all.

I reconfigured my network, dedicating a 5GHz WiFi channel exclusively for the Sonos and my iOS device. This resulted in a slight improvement, but after a while, the same problems reoccurred. I chatted with Sonos support, but they couldn’t resolve my issue and blamed my network configuration. It’s strange because other services like Spotify, YouTube Music, Sonos Radio, and TuneIn have no issues at all.

I hope this gets fixed soon. This is my first Sonos speaker and while I was greatly impressed when it first started playing, I am now deeply disappointed with how poorly the software/system performs.

Sonos, I was informed via chat that you are not aware of that issue, hopefully by seeing all these comments someone will start to investigate this and will find the fix asap please...

I have the same issue streaming Apple Music.

it has became increasingly difficult to stream from Apple Music. Playback would fail intermittently, then more often, until now I am completely unable to play from Apple Music at all.

I have spent hours troubleshooting, doing factory resets, restarting the router, removing and reconnecting Apple Music, chatting with Sonos support, only to hear from the telephone support that there is some issue between Apple and Sonos. I was given no information about when the issue would be resolved.

The excellent hardware has been undermined by software updates removing functionality.

Very disappointed
