I have a Sonos 2 system. Version 17.2. Build 9006717. 1X Beam with 2x Play 3. Recently tried to map sonos to iMAC  OS 12.7.6 music library for the first time and was unsuccessful. Sonos does not seem to recognize the music app file name which was:

/MacintoshHD/Users/joestevens/Music/Recovered Music Library/iTunes Media

I changed this to: /MacintoshHD/Users/joestevens/Music/Music/Media

When I add the folder from NAS, Sonos setup window doesn't seem to recognize the name and the NEXT button is greyed out. There is a an option to “update music library now” in the MANAGE tab of the Sonos dashboard- but Im apprehensive about enabling that since there is little to no info as to what this means or the consequences.

Ive confirmed the permissions are correct, File sharing and SMB are enabled and both are on the same WiFi network.

I suspect this has something to do with the music file name?

Betting the path name is too long.

Good luck finding the limit, I tried and failed.

Looking at the FAQs for answers, none seem to jump out at me, despite this being a fairly ‘old’ OS, it does claim to be supported. I’d be awfully tempted to call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

That being said, Sonos has, in the last year or so, changed the way they’re reading files, both via SMB, as well as on computer hard drives. I’d also be tempted to delete the whole thing, and then set it up again, following the FAQ, starting here

As you add or remove tracks to the library the index must be updated. The index is stored in the players, SONOS does not write to the file system.

Having lost my shared Music Library following recent desktop app updates etc, I went through the mill trying to get the shared access back in place. I couldn’t understand why I was being instructed to add “another” local account to gain access to a shared folder on my own PC within my overarching Administrators account.

I tried several times to bring this together and then settled on using the ChatBot service (albeit reluctantly). I was very surprised to find that this particular chatbot was really “on-point” and understood my questions and answers. Ai has moved on a huge step if this is how automated Chatbots are going to function moving forward.

Ultimately my success came from adding my “shared” resource using the “Networked device (ex. NAS Drive)” option - So, not the “My Music” button, not the “Another folder or drive added to my computer” button, but the last offered option of the three choices. Clicking on that third choice gave me the option to add my own local login credentials. Once entered, boom, creds accepted and music folder finally added back into my library!

Overall, a long winded way of having to add the music library, but for anyone else struggling, it is achievable (but it is frustrating experience to boot!)

Edit … just to reiterate, I am NOT using a NAS, my files are simply stored on my local C:\ drive in the Windows\My Music folder.

not sure about macs and network drives but the standard is usualy the following

\\server\folder1\folder2 (etc)

you had slashes the other way round and only 1 at the start

where server is the IP address or name of server

so yours would be the following

\\MacintoshHD\Users\joestevens\Music\Music\Media

but as other have pointed out it may be to long this should work

\\MacintoshHD\Users\joestevens\Music

or

\\MacintoshHD\Music

may be better if you can move the files to a folder Music in the main drive
