I've been a Sonos user for years (Play:1s, Beam, Move) and an Android developer on the side.
I wanted to share a project I recently launched — Sonos Widget Plus, an Android home-screen
widget for controlling Sonos speakers.
Sharing here in case it's useful to other Android users on this forum. Disclosure: I'm the
developer.
**What it does:**
- Play / pause / skip and volume control from your home screen
- Switch which Sonos room the widget controls with a tap
- Group multiple rooms into a playback group
- Pin up to 5 Spotify playlists or Sonos favourites for one-tap playback
- Fully customisable look (colours and transparency)
- Two widget sizes (4x2 and 4x3)
**How it connects to Sonos:**
It uses the local UPnP protocol over Wi-Fi that Sonos speakers already expose. That means:
- No Sonos account needed
- No cloud service in the middle
- Works whether the music comes from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal, TuneIn, or line-in
- Runs entirely on your local network
**Requirements:**
- Android 8.0 or later
- Sonos speakers on your home Wi-Fi
- Phone on the same Wi-Fi network as your Sonos system when you first launch the app
(for discovery — after that it remembers your speakers)
**Play Store:** [link removed]
**Video walkthrough:** https://youtu.be/3ybj8dzpfgo
**One-time cost:** 5.80 ILS (~$1.60 USD). No subscriptions, no ads, no accounts.
**Not affiliated with Sonos, Inc.** "Sonos" is a registered trademark of Sonos, Inc. This is
an independent third-party app.
Very open to feedback — especially from users with different Sonos setups (older Play:1 vs
newer Era 100, Beam, Arc, etc.). If it doesn't work with your hardware, I'd like to know.
Thanks for reading.
