Is there any plan to improve the Sonos App. It just constantly does not work. I have spent so much money on these speakers and the App has progressively gotten worse as the years go on. It’s super frustrating building a system throughout your house using the Sonos platform and service getting worse and worse. Awful.
Which App the old S1, not really, it is only getting essential maintenance.
The new App is getting updates quite often, the release notes will show you what is being done.
Also the firmware in the speakers is being updated fairly often, again see the release notes.
If you are having issues that updating to the latest App and firmware do not resolve, try a local reboot. Power down ALL Sonos, reboot router and controller then power the Sonos back up.
Still issues? Describe them here and see if the community has answers or when the problem happens submit a diagnostic within a couple minutes and call support.
This app update disaster is a self-inflicted clusterf*** of epic proportions.
Why could they have not created S3 and left S1 and S2 alone?
As a professional software developer myself, the idea that rolling back from mDNS to the prior SSDP architecture was too difficult doesn’t wash: just do a `git revert` and the job is done.
Then just fork the mDNS code into a brand new S3 repo and you’re away. Leave S2 to the people with older kit. S3 for newer stuff. Just like the S1/S2 split.
I’d offer to help rewrite it myself, but I’m fairly sure this won’t be taken up. I emailed the CEO a few times with the “Email the CEO” feature on the website, and never got a reply.
The app has been a disaster since they redid it last year. I have to close and reopen it several times to get anything to play. Sometimes my system doesn't show up. I can no longer connect my Onedrive library to my home system. Using third party apps can more reliable. For the price, having an app you can't use is a joke. I would love to upgrade several components in my system but won't until these app issues are resolved. I can't tell you how many trains I've missed because I'm trying to put music on for my dog but I get messages that "something went wrong" and I can't get anything to play or my system won't showing up at all. Sonos really needs to get it together. The old app worked fine. I would have returned my first device if the old app was this bad.
The app is an unmitigated disaster, regular glitches experienced in different areas, losing connected services, non responsive. After all the money people poured into their speaker setups, Sonos should be ashamed of poorly executed updates, the impact it's had and the amount of time they are taking to resolve issues they have known about for over a year!!!!!
I will not be investing in any more of the Sonos ecosystem, what a shambles.
