Let's talk about Sonos Connect, Connect:AMP, Sonos AMP, and setups using Sonance architectural, or your own speakers and components.

Hi all. I am configuring my new Sonos Amp, its connected to a 2.1 speakers setup in my living room, and an older (2011) Samsung TV. It plays all the regular Sonus sources just fine, but I cannot get it to play via the HDMI setup since the Samsung TV does not support ARC. While my new cable box support Dolby Digital Plus and more, the Samsung TV will only put PCM down the SPDIF (optical out) connection, and it seems the Amp requires Dolby Digital. At the moment, I have the line-out's from the TV going to the Amp's line-ins, but that is obviously analog, and it sounds like it 🙂, but it working. So how best to get digital sound, without buying a new TV with ARC support? I've been thinking of putting a splitter after the cable box (before the Samsung TV), but that would mean that the Amp is technically not getting an ARC signal, it would be getting the original HDMI signal. This would imply that I need to get an audio extractor to pull the signal off the HDMI feed, a
If I have two pairs of 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel, will the max power to each pair be 62.5W?
Outdoor renovation underway. Purchased Polk Atrium 6 speakers (8-Ohm). Hooked them up indoors to test and while they sound quite nice, pretty sure I’m going to buy the Atrium Sub100 to fill in some low end. Original plans were to simply run the stereo pair off Denon X3500H AVR zone 2 speaker terminals, but now that I’m adding the Polk passive outdoor sub, it complicates things a bit. The sub has a dual voice coil and (2) pair of speaker posts (2 for each voice coil) each requiring its own channel, a L&R at 8-Ohm. It also has a passive internal 150Hz crossover. Since this sub is passive and requires two pair of conductors, would the Sonos Amp work for me for all 3 speakers if I simply wired in parallel to the Sonos Amp binding posts? Amy guess on wattage to each of the speakers in this 4-Ohm config? Looking for some guidance/advice here please. If this is not possible or recommended, please feel free to suggest other options. Adding other Sonos speaker components is obviou
Hey. I need some advice, I have this TV: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XT9QLNQ/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3TYNOLTBFNN5I&colid=527E8ONLR9YZ&psc=1 Happy with it, but it only has one HDMI in. I want to get a Play:1 and possibly, somehow, split the HDMI going in (mainly from a PS4 by the way) to be able to split the audio into the line-in on the Play:1 Is this possible, if so, what do I need to do it? Thanks!
Hello All, Just a bit of background for the folks going the vinyl route. I started my Sonos journey recently with a Beam and 2 Ones connected to my TV - all good, sound is what is expected and no issue. As it worked as expected I decided to add a Amp to the mix for my study - and here is where it gets interesting. Round one bought a pair of Dynaudio Emit 10s and hated the sound when playing anything on the amp, we not at vinyl yet - was just a very bright sound and was definitely not going to work for what I had planned. Did a bit of good old research and most forums recommended the Neat Iota's for a warmer sound in small spaces, so bough second speaker pair and love the sound - so we are off to a good start, basics should be fine as the digital content sounds great. The bought a Pro-Ject Essential with build in phono stage, hooked it up to the analog in and let rip - the sound was not quite what I expected, played with gain from 2-10 but still wasnt to my liking, something on
Hello all - My apologies if this topic already exists; I have done some looking around and couldn't find an exact match. First, my current set-up: 1x playbar 1x Sonos sub 2x play 1 1x connect 1x phono pre-amp 1x turntable I currently have my turntable running to the phono pre-amp and then through the connect out to the Sonos speakers. I am wondering if there is any benefit of adding the actual Sonos Amp (or any other third-party amp for that matter) to a turntable set-up given that the Sonos speakers themselves have built-in amps? Anyone have thoughts on this topic? Any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello Let’s talk about Wi-Fi the Internet and how Sonos interacts with both. I invite other knowledgeable members to offer their opinions. First here are Wikipedia definitions of the Internet and Wi-Fi: The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and file sharing. Wi-Fi or WiFi is technology for radio wireless local area networking of devices based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. Wi‑Fi is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance, which restricts the use of the term Wi-Fi Certified to
Hi Alot of interesting reading here about concerned vinyl- people thinking about doing whats been feeling so wrong all these years, digitilization. I went to a sonos dealer today to try to ease my troubled mind. Planned setup is Rega rp3 - phono stage- cable to play 5. Phono stage thoughts are on a Heed questar. Later probably another play 5 wirelessly. I have been worried about a drop in sound quality, but reading here told me I should not worry too much. The dealer told me there was no use going for a better phono stage because play 5 wouldnt care about riaa quality because of the digitilization process. He recommended basic Pro ject Phono Box mm. What do you think, does phono stage quality matter?
Has anyone placed connect amp outdoors in a weather proof protective case? I wonder if a closed case would cause the unit to overheat.
Hi I have my Sub tucked away behind the tv. Partly because the bass sounds good coming from the corner of the room and partly so that my wife won’t see it and ask how much it cost! It looks like a real dust magnet and I’d like to put something over it to protect it. Would it cause problems with airflow, overheating, or would a thin material be ok to use? ( for Sun in the title please read Sub )
Is it acceptable to locate my sub woofer behind my stereo console?
I have a Sonos system made of 2 Play 5 and a SUB and would like to connect a CD player as I have hundreds of music CDs. How can I do?
I have a Technics turntable, and a Kenwood KR- a56R Stereo Receiver. I would like to get this hooked up to the sonos system in my house. A couple of questions, this is assuming I need to buy the CONNECT: - There is not a "Line Out" or even RCA Out option on my reciever. The ONLY out options are to Speakers, and are the old Speaker wire types. Do I connect the Speaker Out to the CONNECT? In order to do this, I will need Speaker Wire to RCA adaptation I am assuming. - DO I lose quality here? I.E. the Receiver has multiple Speaker Out terminal spots. If I only connect 1 "speaker out" to the CONNECT, do I lose the stereo effect? - What would be the best speaker set up for this arrangement? Currently in that room, I have a Sound Bar (for the TV) and 2 PLAY 1 speakers (Surround) and a subwoofer. Should I add a 5th? Thanks!
I did not find in the description that it has a separate DC power supply. Anyone can shed some light please? Thanks
I want to know what the normal and maximum power consumption is for PLAY1, PLAY5, PLAYBAR and SUB when I play? Not when idle. Can´t find that in any specs on sonos.com (the minimum is stated for some of them ex. PLAY1 appr 4w) I need to know this because I have limited power in my apartment. It is not important that your answer is exactly 🙂
Does anyone know if the Sonos Amp supports connection to Bose Lifestyle V35
Hi, I have recently moved to a house that has 8 wired ceiling speakers (all 8 ohm) and would like to incorporate them into my Sonos set up. I bought a Connect:Amp, which allows me to use 4 of these speakers but I was wondering is there anyway I can get all 8 working off one Connect:Amp? In other posts on this topic (e.g. https://en.community.sonos.com/components-228996/number-of-speakers-a-connect-amp-powers-6793754) I have seen mentions of "Impedance Matching Speaker Switches" though I am not sure if this will allow me to use all 8 speakers at once or just to switch which 4 are working at any one time. Any advice that you could give me would be greatly appreciated, if you are referring to particular types of products (like the Impedance Matching Speaker Switches mentioned above) it would be great it you could also link examples. As a note I am UK based.
Hello, I'm interested in the best sound, not price, as we're building a home, and I want to do it right. I have the option to install a pair (or any amount really, but a pair for comparison's sake for this post) of the new in-wall sonance speakers, along with an amp in my garage, or hang a pair of play:5's on the wall. Which combo will have the more robust, loud sound, assuming they're both detailed Sonos audio I'm used to? There aren't many comparisons or reviews yet on the in-wall units, so I'm looking for some Sonos staff to chime in here. I'm thinking in-wall vs in-ceiling units so the sound travels out of the garage a little, lets say if im washing my car in the driveway, and since the garage is rather wide (3 car) and not that tall, i think it will fill the space better if the speakers were projecting horizontally. Also, i'll most likely put a sub in the garage as well.
Guys we have a long established Sonos network. As part I use a ZP90 (which) is hardwired to the router to drive a B&W zeplalin speaker. This speaker is the least used in the house. In trying to use it yesterday it did not appear as a speaker in the Android app. So i have tried to add it (as a connect as ZP90 not listed as an option) i have tried new ethernet cable, no eithernet cable, power cycles and a factory reset (which it does not seem to do as no lights on front). Any suggestions? On a side note the system did a wobble yeaterday, loosing all conectivity requiring speakers to be re added, by hardwire of one speaker to the router. I mention this as the ZP90 was the original hardwired connection (yes i know this not required for some time but it is an old setup). This may be indicative of the ZP90 dying and a new mesh being required.
I have brought my Sonos system into a new home already fitted with a Legrand OnQ Cat5 LyriQ whole house sounds system. I have four areas served by this system including an outdoor, covered deck - the system seems to use a line in signal which is amplified at each location through an amp built into the wall control. Getting support from Legrand on this system has been an exercise in futility. What I'm wondering is if I need a Connect or a Connect:Amp for this system to stream music to these non-Sonos areas? My instinct tells me its a Connect only, but I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with a similar system - past whole house systems I had needed to be amplified at the source which was then connected to the whole house speaker selector, not this one.
I just bought the new Sonos Amp so I could add my long time Bose Acoustimass speakers that I use in my basement office (plus be able to hear the turntable and CD player on my other Play 5's elsewhere in the house). Any thoughts on why I might be missing most of my bass response on this setup? I've adjusted the speaker settings in the Sonos app to full bass and 3/4 treble. But still getting hardly any sound out of the Bose bass reflex speaker on the floor. Additionally, the volume level is probably 75% while running CD player and/or turntable through the Amp.
Does anyone know of a quick solution for using Sonos where not powersockets are available? (I have seen some solutions online that seem to require some altering, which I don't want to do, so a solution that doesn't disrupt the integrity of the Sonos product)
There have been questions about the high frequency response of the Sonos Amp. User hodgeal posted a very interesting plot showing the frequency response of the Sonos Amp using the software REW. It didn't show excessive high frequencies in that single test. I had the opportunity to compare the Sonos amp to my Peachtree amp using the same software (which is very useful and easy to use - thanks hodgeal), and this provides a comparative test of the Sonos Amp frequency response. The Peachtree Nova 125 SE amp is well-respected in the audio community. It is a class D digital amp, same as the Sonos Amp, but as far as I can tell uses different chips. The test uses Duntech Marquis speakers and a Studio Projects C1 microphone. The mic is setup on-axis at a distance of 120cm, which is pretty standard. But none of the details should matter because this is a comparison under identical conditions - I simply swapped amps and repeated the test. And the results? As you can see, the amps
How does one wire up 6 connects to one amplifier (episode 12d 70w)? I have 6 rooms hardwired for speakers. There are 2 global in puts but that doesn’t help connecting 6 zones. Do I connect the Sonos connect RCA outputs to the amps Ch 1/2, 3/4, etc.? If so, does that mean I can’t add any more connects in the future?Shouldn’t I be able to technically add 12 connects since it’s a 12 channel amp? Shouldn't there be a red/white RCA for each channel? See pic below of rear of the amp. Thanks in advance
I recently added a Netgear Range extender to a room that was having trouble getting a strong wifi signal but not for Sonos use. I have a Bridge and a mix of 7 different Sonos Components. Now, I keep getting a message that "Some Sonos players are using the wireless connection from your range extender device. You will be unable to play music in a group of rooms including such a player. To ensure playback in all grouped rooms, you will need a Boost or a player permanently wired to your router." I have a Bridge hardwired to my router. I don't know how a device connected to the extender and I can't figure out which one it is. I have even unplugged the extender and I'm still getting the message. I have been able to play all of my units in groups but I'm getting some occasional drop out. Today, everything is working well but I keep getting the message anytime I change groupings. Any suggestions?
