Let's talk about Sonos Connect, Connect:AMP, Sonos AMP, and setups using Sonance architectural, or your own speakers and components.

This conversation deals with Stand-a-Lone Routers and not Mesh Networks which involve a Main Node and one or more satellites positioned throughout your home. Mesh Networks are becoming increasingly popular; but require additional setup steps versus a stand-alone router. That said...let’s begin… Routers are becoming more sophisticated year over year and promising faster speeds and more features. In terms of connectivity over Wi-Fi you have 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and now ax which promises speeds approaching 10GB over Wi-Fi. Wow...that’s fast!! Dual Band routers with a single 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band are the most common. Tri-Band routers are increasing in popularity having a single 2.4Ghz band and two 5Ghz bands. Other features that are being touted and listed in no particular order are: Guest Networking Parental Controls WPA2 and now WPA3 (Security protocols) Wireless on/off button WPS (Wi-fi Protected Setup for client devices that support it) Detachable Antennae (some routers look like insects
Sonos have recently started a trade in promotion in the UK with partnered retailers where you can trade in a Connect or Connect:AMP and receive a 'specified' discount off of a new Sonos AMP. They then modified the trade in promotion to be where you can trade in any Connect, Connect: AMP or (old gen) Play:5 for 30% any new Sonos product. I get that they are trying to sell more +/ new products but then contributing a massive amount to electrical waste. In their T&C's that they send to retailers they give a £15 credit (recycling fee) for the disposal of the old product. The old product is to strictly not be used or re-registered again or the retailer will be punished or loose their partnership. I think it's disgusting that Sonos are playing a huge role in generating unnecessary waste. All these units are perfectly fine and working but are to be disposed of for no reason other than that Sonos want to make money. Yes Sonos are giving a £15 credit for recycling but retailers won't and a
I'm wanting to do the following: Take an Apple TV and connect it to a J-Tech Digital HDMI Splitter 1x2 and take 1 HDMI out from the splitter to my projector for video and the second HDMI out from the splitter to a Beam for audio. Hi. I have a new Sonos AMP connected to 2 pairs of speakers with a volume control for each pair. My preference would be to have the AMP set to a fixed volume (max) and use the seperate volume controls for control. I know the fixed level is an option on the connect - is it possible on the Sonos AMP?
Compatible headphones for Sonos.
Hello Sonos universe - I bought a playbase a few months ago. Love the sound, quality and design. Only problem is that I moved 2 weeks ago and the new room layout is making it a real challenge to keep the playbase. The playbar now makes a lot more sense from a space perspective, so I am wondering if there may be any opportunity to trade units if someone is in a similar but opposite scenario. I know its a long shot but looking at what options are out there. Thank you!
I just got a connect amp and wired it up with a pair of outdoor Polk Atrium 4 speakers. After I got everything installed I went to play some tunes... I had to have to volume to about 50% on the slide bar on the app before I really heard any music out of the speakers, and even then it wasn’t very loud and I was standing right next to the speakers. If I had the volume up to 80% or higher it got closer to a normal listening level, but didn’t leave much room for advancement. I typically listen to my play 1 or sound bar between 30-50% unless we are having a party. I’ve read other reviews where the Sonos amp and a pair of outdoor speakers is blowing their neighbors away, I don’t feel like mine are getting that loud. Do I need better speakers or is it the amp?? I bought the amp open box excellent condition from Best Buy, I just want to make sure something isn’t wrong with it before my 15 day return window is up. Any feedback would be appreciated!
I'd like to share my impressions of the new Sonos amp paired with kef LS50, id also like to share the frequency graphs i have recorded using REW to address some of the concerns on the amp being bright and the sub woofer crossover boosting the treble. Positive: The pair sounds good, I came from a much larger (older) stereo component setup looking to keep the HiFi sound but also have some of the always on convenience that I have found using the numerous PLAY:1s around the house. I now find myself listening to much more music as the amp is always on ready to go. It also sounds good for TV/Movies using ARC (with my previous setup I always found the voices too quiet and i didn't want a large AVR) even with just having stereo speakers - I feed the amp Dolby 5.1 from the Apple TV4, the Amp down-mix very well to include a DSP centre channel (this sounds noticeably clearer than feeding stereo), I am looking forward to adding rear surround at a later date. Hardware is built well, and
We live in Missouri and have a large backyard area. We just installed a big walkout deck with Raintight underdecking, which should keep that area pretty dry. I also have good wifi out there. It is completely shaded at all times, so there would be no direct sunlight. If I were to put the Connect Amp into a place where it cannot get wet, how worrisome is the extreme cold and hot temperatures? In the past, we've had our Amp in our basement, but this is a new house (to us) and getting the Amp inside is not going to be easy. Wondering if storing it under the deck is an option.
I have been using my ZP90/”Connect” for at least the past five years to direct the Sonos signal to my NAD integrated amplifier (3120) so I can listen to Sonos-sourced content through the speakers attached to the amp (B&W 686s plus subwoofer). I simply use RCA cables to connect the line-out jacks on the Connect to a line-in terminal on the NAD.I’m now considering trading up to the Sonos Port under the new trade-up program. Will I be able to have the same setup with the Port that I now have on the Connect? Thanks for any and all advice.. Howard
Hello Sonos community! I'm fairly new to vinyl collecting and analog sound. I invested quite a bit of money into Sonos a while before vinyl started growing on me. I currently have a sound bar, and 2 play 3's in a surround sound configuration in my living room. I have a pro-ject turntable currently just running some old bookshelf speakers. I bought a connect:amp to hook the turntable up to. Sound quality is great, but I was hoping to push it a little further. I ordered a tube amplifier online. My question was if I run the record player to the tube amp, then into Sonos connect:amp, would I get any sound quality benefits? From either wired speakers connected to connect:amp or more specifically my Sonos speakers?
How can I get my sonos connect to trigger on my external amp ?? I wish sonos would add a 12v trigger... I am trying to figure out how to get my sonos to trigger on my external amp from standby mode. I don't want to leave amp in active mode all the time.
The Sonos Amp was designed to be stackable. I was hoping the new Sonos Port would be designed to also be mix-and-match stackable (in an install with multiple Amps and Ports). Unfortunately that does not appear to be true, as the physical dimensions of the Port are quite different from (smaller than) the Amp. The Port FAQ is silent about this matter. So, Sonos, what’s the recommended way to install multiple Amps and Ports in a stacked but not rack mounted configuration? Thanks. (P.S. Also a bit surprised to see there is only coax, not optical, digital output.)
Can I combine the new Sonos AMP with a Beam, wired in ceiling rear surround speakers and a third party sub-woofer to achieve surround sound for my TV? Sub-woofer and rear speakers would be wired directly to AMP. HDMI cable from TV to AMP. WIFI signal from AMP to Beam?
Is the following setup possible with a single Sonos Amp? From press releases about the Amp I thought it was, but I find it strange that it's not mentioned in the online manual (https://www.sonos.com/support/en/sonos-user-guide/index.html#t=sonos-user-guide%2Famp%2Famp.htm): - TV connected to Sonos Amp via HDMI arc. - Passive wired speakers connected to the Sonos Amp wired terminals, providing two front channels + phantom center. - Sonos Sub connected to the sub terminal, providing the .1. - Two Sonos wireless speakers connected wirelessly to the Amp, providing the rear channels. I know is otherwise possible to get surround sound with two Amps or with a Playbar/Beam + Amp, but I would like to avoid that (both for price reasons and because I prefer rear speakers to be wireless, so as not to have visible cables through the room). So I was hyped on the possibility of the above setup. I hope it's possible even if it doesn't appear in the manual. Also another question (secondary)
I am trying to work out whether the following wall volume control is suitable for a Sonos amp running four speakers. https://www.cyberselect.co.uk/product/russound-alt-126r-volume-control/ My set up will be two pairs of speakers wired in parallel to a Sonos amp. One pair will be in one room, the other pair will be in another. The speakers are 8 ohms. The purpose of the switch is to be able to turn down the volume independently in one of the rooms. I know that the power output of the Sonos amp is 125 W. The RMS rating for the volume switch is 42 W per channel. I can’t seem to find the RMS rating of the Sonos amp or is this 125W? As I will be running two speakers from each of the left and right channels will this reduce the power going down each speaker cable to 62.5W? Sorry for all the questions and if anyone else has any recommendations for a different volume control switch then please do say.
I have a Sony STR DE 895, I have a turntable and tv hooked up. TV is hooked up via digital connection. Receiver is connected to Connect via the tape out. I can only get the record player and radio to play to the connect. The tv will not. I'm thinking it might not be possible, since it's a digital signal from the tv. Is there anything I'm doing wrong, or anyway I can make this work? Thanks
I'm bringing my Sonos New Amp to a cottage that has no wifi for it to connect to. I'd like to be able to stream Spotify music to the Amp. I believe the only way to do this is to use the line-in from my iPhone (i.e. dual RCA l/r from Amp to 3.5mm male to iPhone 3.5mm female to lightning dongle to iPhone). As a side note, I know I could bring a little router and setup a local wifi (with no internet access), but this would only allow me to wirelessly stream the music on my phone, since my phone would be connected to this local wifi and cannot be then connected to the internet (for streaming Spotify) at the same time. So my questions are: Can someone confirm that the line-in method is the best method for this situation to achieve my goal? In connecting in this way, would there be any compromises in terms of sound quality vs. using the amp as per normal on a wireless network connected for streaming to from the internet, etc.? Prior to leaving for this cottage, is there anything I sho
I may need to move from Canada to Singapore in the next year. The two countries have different electrical standards and plugs. My two part question is: 1) Can I simply buy power cables compatible with the local market (Singapore) and swap out my existing ones? 2) Where can I buy the cables locally in Singapore?
Hey just thought I'd share as I've just made a big mistake when buying a turntable for home - I looked around for something to match the colour scheme of my apartment (I needed a Red one so couldn't get from the SONOS shop) and found this "budget" turntable that would hook up to my SONOS speaker system in every room - A perfect solution so found an AV provider and purchased it but what I didn't notice is that there is a Pro-Ject Essentials III A and a Pro-Ject Essentials III Phono both of which are the same price and the latter comes with a built in pre-amp which you need for the CONNECT which I also purchased so be warned peeps or you'll end up banging your head against the wall like I did today 😢
Hello, I just bought a Sonos Connect (July 14, 2019) to connect to my Marantz SR6011 Receiver. It works fine from a functional perspective. However, the sound quality is not very good. It lacks the richness and quality that I would expect. I'm using high quality and expensive Bowers and Wilkens speakers so it has nothing to do with my system. I used optical output from the Sonos Connect and attached it to the TV/Audio optical input of the receiver. There's a CD optical input on the receiver as well, but I would imagine there's no difference in quality. I updated the SW on the Sonos. Please provide any advice or is this the best that Sonos could do? Thank you in advance for any guidance or words of wisdom.
Hey, I have a Play 5 connected to my Pro-ject essential III Phono. The problem I now have is that I cant listen music with my headphone. What is the cheapest solution to be able to listen music via headphone? Its a Audio-Technica wired headphone, so no bluetooth. is it possible to use a headphone amplifier and put it in between my turntable and play 5? Will that make it possible to listen my lp's via the headphone?
So, i currently have a Sherwood RX-4105 stereo receiver with a Chromecast Audio in my shed. Its been in there and working for a couple years without issues. WiFi strength is enough for wireless streaming. (shed is about 40 ft from a Google WiFi in the kitchen) I'm getting ready to finish out my rooms by replacing all my Google Homes with Sonos speakers and just needed to make sure the Sonos Amp will survive the heat and cold in my shed. (I live in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S.) I currently have a pair of Sonos Ones (stereo pair) in the kitchen that will be about the same distance away. Maybe slightly closer. So the SonosNet signal should make it. I think it'll be fine, just wanted a few other opinions. Thanks in advance!
I purchased an audio technica turntable and have tried to connect the audio in to my Sonos connect. I’ve read that I should be able to plug in to the audio in and the “line in” will show in my app under browse. But nothing is showing up...
I have a feature request for Sonos and couldn't find where to post it. Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I have been a Sonos customer since 2010, love the products and use them everyday. My request is that Sonos engineer its products for better "error recovery". Answers to Sonos support questions, as well as responses on this community forum, often recommend something like: "Power down your router, turn off every device connected to your wifi network, then turn everything back on." I work in Corporate IT, and I understand why this advice is given, and I understand why it works. But with my Corporate IT hat on, where one manages 10's or 100's of thousands of hardware devices and software platforms around the globe, we simply would not purchase any device that required a reboot of the network to solve a problem. The products have to be engineered with better resiliency and recovery options. Home networks, of course, are much simpler, with only 10-20 devices on average. Bu
