Current setup:
turntable --> pre-amp --> era 100.
i want to have the turntable audio also play out of my Adam A5X active studio monitors.
Can i get a sonos port, and connect the outputs to the Adam A5x(no inputs connected to port) and then group the Era 100 turntable audio to the port, so that the audio from the turntable plays out of both the era 100 and the adam a5x’s via the port?
if so, will there be a delay of any kind?
Yes, assuming I understand you correctly.
Room A
- Turn table > preamp > Era 100 (using Sonos proprietary line-in adapter)
Room B
- Powered Speakers > Port line-Out
Grouping
- Start music in Room A then Group in Room B
When streaming you can start the stream in either room and group-in the other. There should be no delay.

exactly as you stated…
perfect! thank you..
slight correction it should be port line-out → powered speakers right?
also, if i want to have a cd player connected to the era 100...do you know of an input selector switch i could use that could go between the turntable/cd player and era 100 so i can switch between them?
Gald, it worked out…
Regarding your comment
- “slight correction it should be port line-out → powered speakers right?”
I wrote my response as below to emphasize that the speakers must be connected to line-out of the Port to receive the audio. Some get confused as to which device the powered speakers or Port is actually sending the audio which is the Port.
- Powered Speakers > Port line-Out
To connect a CD player to the Era 100’s you’re going to need RCA to RCA cable x 3 and RCA to 3.5mm x 1
- Turntable RCA to RCA cable > PreAmp -In > Pre-Amp Out RCA to RCA cable > Switch-Input
- RCA to RCA cable CD-Out > Switch-Input
- RCA to 3.5MM cable from Switch-out > Sonos proprietary line-in adapter > Era 100
See switches here
@AjTrek1 I tend to “follow the sound” when describing connections, as @streetsruly would do. So Port out to active speakers. Anything else seems wrong to me.
If you have another SONOS unit with Line-In capability, you could connect the CD player to the other unit.
thank you everyone.
if i want to make things even more complicated, what’s the best way to listen to the audio coming out of the sonos port ? do i need some sort of headphone amp? my headphones are wireless.
turntable → pre-amp → era 100
sonos port(no inputs) → mackie big knob output selector → adam a5x.
is it possible to go from the big knob to a headphone amp/transmitter?
Feed the analog out port on your Sonos Port to whatever device connects to your headphone transmitter. Sonos provides a line level output from that location.

hmm, i’m confused and have no idea what this means.
the port outputs will go into the big knob by mackie via xlr/rca. then can i plug the big knob into a wireless headphonme/amp transmitter? if so, are there any recs?
What is a ‘big knob’, please? If it’s receiving the signal from the Sonos Port, than likely yes, you could connect either a transmitter to it, in some fashion, or even wire the headphones directly. Not knowing which headphones, or what a ‘big knob’ is limits my ability to answer.
If this ‘big knob’ Mackie is the passive studio monitor that’s on Amazon here, you could connect the headphones transmitter directly to either of the analog out ports on it.
If you are currently using the RCA outputs a simple Y cable is an adequate splitter to allow your Bluetooth transmitter to also connect. Otherwise just use the RCA outputs.
thanks!
when looking for a transmitter, is there a specific term i should be googling?
is it a wireless headphone amp? or something else?
the big knob is the passive. studio monitor, yes, that you linked above.
what im confused about is, the port is not amplified….it sends audio to my adam a5x studio monitors which are actgive speakers containing their own amp.
therefore the port conneccted to the mackie big knob is unamplified, so is it a wireless headphone amp that i need? just unsure what i need to google for?
Not sure there is such a thing as a "wireless headphone amp" how would it send power to the headphones without a connecting cable?
Go to Amazon, type in "Bluetooth Transmitter" and pick one with RCA inputs and good ratings.
