Sonos Boost can't be added to an S1 setup with Connect and Play:3

Hi all,

I just bought a Sonos Boost to eliminate frequent dropouts. I tried to set up the Boost by adding it to the existing setup using the S1 app, but this process did fail with a message that there is a compatibility issue with the Sonos Boost after I followed the process “System” - “Add Boost or Bridge” 

As much as I understood from earlier articles, the Boost is supported in an S1-controlled setup, so my question is why I can’t add it using the S1 app?

It would be excellent if you could help me out.

I believe you first need to use the S2 app to downgrade the Boost to S1

    Once you have done as @Mr. T suggests, I think you also need to:

    1. Connect one of your devices to your router by Ethernet.  (Unless you already have a wired device, in which case the Boost is unlikely to have any effect.)
    2. Check in About My System that all devices are WM=0 not WM-1 (although if you have a Move it will have WM=1)
    3. Wire the Boost to the router and add it to your system.  (Strictly speaking I don’t think it has to be wired for this, but you might as well)
    4. Wait a couple of minutes then remove the cable from the originally wired device
    5. Wait a couple of minutes and then check system is OK.

    Whether or not the Boost helps with the dropouts depends on the cause of the dropouts.  The Boost isn’t a panacea.

    Thanks Mr.T, that’s what I did after I found out ;-)

    I think the only issue is that when I wanted to connect the Boost using the S1 app it only told me „incompatibility issue“, but I did not get any hint, recommendation or maybe even forwarding to the S2 app to start the downgrade process.

    So I spent 2-3 hours in starting a research (also my request in the forum), whereas the final resolution was a 15 minute job.
