I’m experimenting with removing my Boost from my system and running on my home Wi-Fi network. When I take out the Boost and restart my components the app no longer recognizes my system. Is this normal? Must I set up my system again as if it’s a new system?

Do you have any other Sonos components hardwired via Ethernet to your router? It’s a while back that I took my Boost out of the system, but I ~think~ you can only do it if you do.

I should add that I have no regrets about decommissioning the Boost from my system...

I’m familiar with the support article cited above. I’m trying to implement the wireless option. Without the Boost cabled to my router my in-place component network is not recognized by the app. Is it really necessary to reconfigure from scratch as if it’s a new installation?


No. You just need to, while the BOOST is in use, tell your system the new WiFi credentials, so the change gets transmitted to all your Sonos. Once you’ve done that, you should be able to remove the BOOST (or other speaker acting as a BOOST).

Sometimes, the speaker’s firmware may be recalcitrant in recognizing the change after that, you may need to do a simple power cycle of the device, but that’s fairly rare. 


I just consulted https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/connect-sonos-to-a-new-router-or-wi-fi-network and learned that 6 of my 8 products are on the Unsupported list. Based on my reading of the article I must perform a factory reset on the unsupported products and set them up as new installations. I was hoping for something a little less labor intensive.
