Does the CONNECT Amp need to be hard wired to network with ethernet cable or can it access network via wifi (as the Sonos One does)?

Depends on what you are using it for. If it's just music, then no connection needed, it has a wifi card (2.4Ghz) . If you're using it for Surround speakers with a Sonos soundbar, then yes, it needs to be hard wired.
