Ceiling speakers - I also need suggestions on best set up

I've searched for related setup scenarios on this forum - connecting to existing in-ceiling speakers - and I found this article below, but am finally giving in and posting my own setup question. I'm not really an audio guy and can use the help. I'm trying to figure out whether I need a Connect, a Connect:Amp, or the new Amp. My wife wants an easier way to play music in the whole house. We never use the Kenwood receiver anymore (leaving it on generated a lot of heat and wasted electricity, and we'd have to go manually turn it on). We pretty much only use streaming music these days - Pandora mostly, and use an Echo Dot to control it.
This is the similar article I found: https://en.community.sonos.com/components-228996/ceiling-speakers-need-suggestions-on-best-set-up-6803568

Our current setup:

Old Kenwood receiver Zone A goes to Family room, 2 sets of in-ceiling/wall speakers for front and surround sound. We actually never use it anymore.

Zone B goes to this speaker selector "PHOENIX GOLD ISM-4 Impedance-matching Speaker Selector":

It has 3 sets of speakers behind it:

A pair in the bedroom (with this wall mounted volume knob "PHOENIX GOLD VMT-100 WHITE 100/50 Watt Impedance-Matching Stereo Volume Control in White":
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009W3IN/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A pair in the living room (with same wall mounted volume knob)

A pair outside on the back patio (no volume knob).

If I understand correctly, the best setup would be a Connect:Amp for every room. Unfortunately, income dropped this year, so that will have to be a future goal. I'm hoping that just one Sonos device can solve our situation for now.

I'd like to buy a Connect Amp (or the new Amp), and go from it to the speaker selector with 4 pairs of speakers behind it (I would add one speaker pair from the Family room to the speaker selector). Should this arrangement work ok? Can I do this without a risk of overheating/fire danger? I'm at a loss when it comes to watts, ohms, and impedance.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Yes i would buy a Sonos amp (the new one not the old connect:amp) and hook that to the speaker selection switch as a first step.
