Hi the problem I have is what is in the title, when I stream music directly to Sonos Arc I can control the volume using the TV remote, but only if the TV is off, if the TV is on but the source is still set to a streaming service or AirPlay the TV remote is not able to change the volume.

I have an LG G1 and use the magic remote.

Hmmm…I have three (3) LG’s all different models and they all behave in this manner:

  • Steaming music with the TV off the magic remote does not work to control volume. That makes perfect sense as the remote interacts with the TV first and then sends the command to the Sonos soundbar.
  • While Streaming music and then turning on the TV the music stream is stopped and the source is changed to TV whereupon then magic remote works to adjust volume.

The above appears to be the opposite of what you have described. However, I can’t change how my LG’s work as opposed to yours.

In my case I don’t perceive there exists an issue with Sonos nor the LG remote. Both are behaving as they should.

The only possible solution to your use case may be to purchase a programmable remote that allows multiple program assignments with one dedicated to the soundbar. Here again this is only a guess.

Streaming also stop for me when I turn on the TV and I can control the volume level with the remote again, but if I then start streaming again the streaming again, TV is still on but the sound is from streaming. The extra interesting part here; I have a TV box connected on HDMI2 and a dedicated remote for that box (as the CEC and magic remote works poorly with that box unfortunately), this remote is still able to change the volume level on Sonos Arc when the TV is on but the sound source is streaming.

Interesting, but I have no other answers. Good luck to resolve your issue to your satisfaction. 👍
