Sonos Era 100 Pair keeps breaking

Good day,

I have two Sonos Era 100. They both work fine individually when i connected them to my computer via bluetooth. However, when i paired them up as a stereo pair, the speaker that isn't connect to the PC keeps breaking up, and the one that is connected works perfectly. Same thing happens when i connect my Samsung phone to the stereo pair. I have also tried connecting Bluetooth to the other speaker and the problem persist in a reverse manner. The breaking is extremely frequent, about half or one full second every ten seconds. When i off the wifi the breaking is way worst.

The two speakers are on either side of my 27 inch monitor and the computer is on the left side under the table. Bluetooth from the computer is a Bluetooth 5.0 dongle from TP Link. Mesh router is about 5.5meters (18 feet)  unblocked from my PC.

I have no issues when streaming spotify from my phone.

I have tried all of solutions i can find on the web, including power cycling on the speakers, unpair/re-pair stereo pair, factory resets, wifi reboot, changing wifi channels, swapping the speakers left and right but none of those are working. I have even removed/unplugged any device that might cause interference to the wifi/Bluetooth signals, eg Google Home, IR controlled LEDs, etc.

To add on, I have a very strong wireless connection and speed (10gbps, wifi 7 with mesh routers). The SNR ratio shown on the app is always above 40. Even after shifting my mesh router to where the PC and speakers are, and with SNR over 60, im still having the same issues.

I have previously spoken to a Sonos live agent, went thru the textbook diagnosis and remedy and nothing worked.

Im very disappointed that nothing seems to fix the issue. Please help me find a solution.

Thank you.

Hi @scarfo, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issue with your Era 100 stereo pair.

I had a look into the diagnostics you sent and into your case. While the Era 100’s are staying as a stereo pair, the speaker that isn’t connected directly via Bluetooth has a lot of sync errors. These errors can cause audio stuttering or brief audio dropouts, which sounds like what you’re experiencing.

With the placement of your speakers in relation to your computer, it is possible that they’re too close and are picking up on interference. While we recommend Bluetooth sources be within 30 feet (approximately 9 meters); following our guide on Reducing Wireless Interference, we’d also recommend your speakers are placed at least 18 inches (half a meter) away from any other electronic devices. As a test, can you temporarily move the speakers away from your PC and test the Bluetooth connection again.

If you don’t experience any issues after moving your speakers, check the guide I linked above for sources of interference that are near your computer and move them away from your speakers, or space your devices out to help prevent interference. If dropouts while using Bluetooth are still occurring even when distanced from other devices, then please reach out to our support team on the phone for further troubleshooting, as they have the necessary tools available to look into your system and help resolve your issue.

I hope this helps!

Hello Jamie,

Thank you for your reply.

I moved the speakers away from other eletronics and still faces the same issue. Note that i had no issues when i connect them individually to bluetooth sources (when non stereo pair).

Anyways i was recording a video of the issue and i found out that the breaks occurs every minute, and another every 58 seconds intervals, and few random breaks in between. Eg first breaks on 1min 00s and 1min 02s,  next confirmed breaks at 2min 00s and 2min 02s, so on and so forth.

Not sure if this info helps. I wont be able to reach out to the support team as the hotline only runs Monday to Friday, during my working hours.
