sonos causes sky q connection to fail

I have the LG G3 tv, Sonos Arc and Sky Q

all connections are Ethernet. Sonos is eArc

when turning on sky q, the tv automatically turns on as well. This works fine once or twice, but then, all too frequently, sky q will turn on, the tv will turn on, but a message appears saying no connection.

the easiest resolution is to pull the sky q hdmi cable out, immediately push it back in, and the connection is remade and sky q appears.

If the Sonos hdmi cable is removed from the tv (so we only have tv sound) sky q works fine. Every time.

any ideas?

Not sure the issue is with Sonos directly, it sounds more like a CEC issue with the TV, but that’s not guaranteed. I’d double check and apply updates to all three devices, then power cycle all of them, by unplugging them from the wall for at least two minutes.

If it continues, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

@dave1470

What you can do additionally is turning off Simplink (CEC) in TV Settings, remove the hdmi cables at tv, restart tv by unplug / plug, turn on Simplink and reconnect the hdmi cables.

@Schlumpf you are a superstar! That seems to have fixed it. I have tried to turn off simplink previously but it keeps turning itself back on. The golden nugget was to unplug everything first, turn it off, then plug back in.

sorted!

I wish I'd asked 3 years ago….LG have even changed the main board to try and fix it!

thanks again 🤝

@dave1470

Thanks for the feedback and let’s cross fingers that this didn’t work just as a temporary workaround. I often use these steps to initiate a new, clean CEC connection, but if the tv software is buggy, the issue might come back. So I hope in your case it was a one time issue.

@Schlumpf there is an issue…...unplugging all devices, power cycling and turning CEC off does indeed finally get CEC to stay off, but the downside now is that, once everything is reconnected, the Arc is not recognised and I only get tv sound.

arrgghhhh!

what to do?

Ah… ok, you obviously let Simplink turned off. So CEC communication doesn’t work.
If you take a look at my post above you will see I suggested to turn on CEC again after power cycle.
And after turning it on you can reconnect hdmi cables to renew CEC communication.

Please try again step by step in exactly that chronology.

Such a new CEC renew often helps, but if the issue comes back imo there might be a software problem with your tv regarding CEC communication.
