Question

removing a second system

I have my Sonos system wit my beam and surround plays and two bookshelf speakers. However, my Sonos Play seems trapped on a second system. Nowhere on the app am I allowed to delete the second system or to merge them so I’m unable to use my PLAY. I’ve factory reset it a number of times but it says it’s added to the WiFi but not the system. It’s the speaker I use for music and I’m getting nowhere with it.

any help or advice would be much appreciated!

thanks

Chris

Need more information. What other Sonos speakers do you own?

I have a beam and two play 1s for the surround tv system and two symphonic bookshelf ikea speakers in the kitchen and upstairs, all working fine on the system.

the Sonos Five is the one appearing on the second system and no matter how many times I restore factory settings, it won’t add to the same system. I can’t see any way to merge or delete the second system. Doing my head in!

thanks

chris

Going about it wrong is the most likely issue.

Factory Reset (one of the few times that is a good thing) the problem speaker.

Unplug it.

Connect to the other system and verify you see your other Sonos

Power up the problem speaker.

Wait for it to boot and show it is ready to be added. (see the LED blink code article in Support here)

Use the App that you have open and showing the other Sonos to ADD SPEAKER to the current system.

Thanks for this. Followed all the instructions and still the same outcome. It’s on the system (2) and won’t link or move to system (1).

And doesn’t appear when I try to add speaker to System 1.

got a friend visiting in a couple of weeks who is more tech savvy than me so hopefully she can get to bottom of it. Thanks again for taking the time to help!

Are you trying to join an S1 firmware Sonos with an S2 firmware one?

It didn't sound like that from your description but if you are using two different app versions that could be it.

Support here has instructi9ns for S1 and S2 configurati9n issues.

I don’t think I am. It all worked perfectly fine previously, it’s just this weekend that all the Sonos speakers disappeared and then this is the only one I’m not able to get back on the system

If it is visible as a second system that rules out a failure of the wifi card.

If it won't reset and add to an existing system there is likely something external causing the issue. Check for anything disruption the connection, VPN, ad-blockers and the like.

If it still won't connect you are likely going to need to call Sonos for assistance.

Just to be certain: when setting up the Play 5 after having reset it, do you follow these guide lines. https://support.sonos.com/en/article/set-up-your-sonos-one
Especially the “Go to Settings and select “Add speaker or component”?

Yup! Followed the guide exactly and it appears on my app to add it. When it’s added, it says that it’s added but setup needs to continue via the app and that’s when I can’t get any further. It’s like it’s trapped on this mysterious second system on my network
