Play 5 speaker connection issues

Our old zoneplayer s5 speaker was working great until I stupidly updated to S2 without realizing it is not compatible. I have tried many fixes: deleted S2 app and reinstalled S1, reset speaker to factory settings but nothing allows the app to find the speaker anymore-any help. It was working yesterday until I did the app upgrade :-(

This should be easier if you can wire the player to the network while you install.

Thanks for your message-I should have said the speaker is wired to the network-still not found.

wondering if the forced S2 may have damaged somehow? Although lights flash as they should on reset.

See if the steps in the link will help even though it’s for an S2 product. If not call Sonos Tech support.

Any ‘change of state’ can be detrimental to electronics, although it’s fairly rare. I’d suggest that you call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system. And they’d likely be able to determine if indeed it is a hardware failure.

How many speaker do you have? I also suggest a downgrade to S! For the rest of your speakers if that are all compatible:

I believe its a slow process because you have to downgrade the speakers one at a time .

Technically, an old PLAY:5 gen 1 (sometimes known as S5) can’t be upgraded, it doesn’t have the CPU/memory in it to accept such a thing.
