Question

Can the queue be seen in the app when not active?

I have been forced to upgrade to the new app (I installed the desktop app on a new PC, which upgraded all my speakers - despite them being set not to upgrade, which then meant my Android app no longer worked) and despite all my fears, so far it isn’t as bad as I was dreading - and my NAS library is there, with artwork 😊. Hoping that well documented missing features (such as editing playlists) will come back soon 🙏🏻.

There is one thing though that I can’t find and perhaps this is because it isn’t there.

Most of the time I listen to streamed radio (BBC Radio 3 - and notice that the image is no longer visible in the app, which is surprising/disappointing, but not critical). In the past I have set up a queue which I can switch to easily when I decide that I don’t want to listen to the radio for a while. I can’t find any way in the mobile app to be able to find the queue - am I missing something?

Did you find what you were looking for?

Hello @r0seb, welcome back!

I am glad to hear you are not experiencing any issues with the new Sonos App.

In regards to the currently missing feature of saving / editing / deleting Sonos Playlists, please be patient as our developers are working hard to bring it back.

Keep on the lookout for any updates on our Support Article The New Sonos App and Future Feature Updates.

When the source of the audio that is currently playing in a Sonos room is a radio station, Bluetooth or TV audio, the Now Playing screen in the Sonos App does not have a Queue button.

If you initiate playback with a source like the ones I mentioned above, that would replace the queue. The difference between a Radio station from the Sonos App and Bluetooth or TV audio is that the latter are external sources.

If interrupted (turn off TV / disconnect the Bluetooth connection) then the previously played queue will re-appear in the Sonos Room.

The queue is also different on every room. For an example:

  • I have a Sonos Era 300 which is currently connected via Bluetooth to my PC playing YouTube content under my Desk Room. In the Now Playing screen there is no Queue button. If I terminate the Bluetooth connection the Now Playing screen changes back to a Radio station I listened a while back, waiting for me to press Play.
  • At the same time I have a Sonos Roam playing one of my favorite Spotify playlists which in the Now Playing screen of the Sonos App Mini Room has a Queue button that includes all the tracks.
  • My flatmate is listening to his YouTube playlist on the Office Room which I can view by tapping the room and transition to the Now Playing screen. The Queue button there shows a different list of the tracks from his YouTube playlist.

We have several introduction articles you can find here in our Community The new Sonos App, if you’d like to take a look.

I hope this helps.

Thanks @Sotiris C. - I will experiment and I’m sure I’ll work it out. Hopefully the hard working developers will soon have the functionality back to where it used to be.

Just one little correction…..I didn’t say I am not experiencing ANY issues with the new app - just not as many as I feared 😉. I do find it laggy at times, and had to make a few tag changes to my music library so that Albums with more than one artist weren’t split - but that’s all done.

Perhaps more of an issue is that I have some podcasts stored as Favourites. Fine, they all show, but if I click on one of them in the (Android) phone app, it stops the radio (or whatever) playing and brings up the last queue - but NOT the podcast. If I go to the (Windows) desktop app I can get the podcast to play - and it adds the podcast to the 2nd spot in the queue. Go back to the app (which shows the podcast playing correctly - complete with artwork) and it says it is unable to load the queue………..

Am also intrigued as to why when BBC Sounds radio (3)  is playing, the artwork of what is currently playing is not shown in the phone app, but is in the desktop app. In the phone app, clicking on “Show in Sounds” doesn’t do anything, so it’s as if there is something missing in linking BBC Sounds with the new app. (Haven’t tried other services yet - perhaps I will encounter similar issues).

Any advice on the above?
