ideally I’d like to use my bookshelf speakers with a turntable utilising the amp. This is in the same room as my tv with a beam, can I not use my bookshelf speakers to provide surround sound and then when I’m playing vinyl utilise the bookshelf speakers?

Not easily, (and separately), no. Due to the nature of the connection being two distinct types, they usually are used as one or the other. It’s not difficult, relatively speaking, to move between the two modes, it just takes effort and time. If you did it repeatedly, I’d say under four minutes. It just becomes a pain to do, over and over, and, if you TruePlay either situation, you lose that effort when you switch from one setup to the other.
Not sure of your setup, but when used as surrounds, the line in is disabled, I’d suggest a separate device for the Line in, and then play the line in to the Beam’s room, boosting the surrounds output versus the Beam for music, and making sure the surround speakers are set to ‘Full’ and not ‘Ambient’.
+1Thanks airgetlam I hadn’t thought of that. I guess when you play use the turntable you lose quality when sending digitally to another room? Rather than directly to the bookshelf via an amp?
There shouldn’t be any loss in quality, unless you use ‘compression’ on the signal. It’s a digital connection.
