Apps fiddly volume control

 I understand your issue.  I think the reason I don’t suffer from that as much as some is because all my Sonos speakers have the Volume Limit set to around 65% to 70%.  So I never get that close to Mute.  What you suggest should be implemented.

I don’t tend to adjust the volume that often, but when I do, and I’m looking for smaller increments, I tend to tap on the number, or the end of the line, being careful not to hit ‘mute’, which is all too easy, as you suggest. It’s not perfect, but serves when I do need to adjust things…but it does help that I’m using an iPad, and not the smaller screen of a phone. 

A solution is to tap on the line before or after the slider button.  By doing so the volume decreases or increases in one degree increments. Not as fast as using the slider button but definitely more accurate.

If you open the Group settings you get a more usable volume control.

If adjusting multiple Rooms it also stays open instead of collapsing if you wait too long between touches.

So glad its not just me that thinks the volume slider in the Sonos App is poor implementation. Sonos is apparently ‘listening’ here, where users are encouraged to provide feedback:

My gripe is you have to play target practice with the dot, there should be no need to actually hit the dot before changing volume, just slide anywhere on the volume slider, ie the SAME user interface as the physical volume sliders on the new Sonos speakers, eg Era-100, or the same user interface as Apple Music App volume sliders. You should not have to touch exactly where the volume is currently to slide the volume. Yes you can tap either side, but at low volume its easy to mute accidently.

It should be easier for people with fat fingers and/or small phone and/or not wearing glasses and/or had a beer to change volume. 😀

You may not have to adjust volume often, but when you do, you need to sometimes change quickly.

I too have this issue when wanting background music volume.  A simple Plus and Minus button at each end with a separate Mute Button maybe below the slider?

No need for plus / minus, you can already tap.

The issue is the volume slider is absolute in the App, ie sliding from left to right is 100% volume. There is no need for this.

It should be relative, like the physical sliders on Era-100. If you slide from far left to far right on the physical volume on Era-100 is 30%, so to go from 0% to 100% you have to do ~3 complete swipes. You don’t have to hit the actual volume % before you slide, you just need to slide ANYWHERE on the slider and slide right to increase, and vis versa for decrease.

I don’t see a use case for changing from 0% to 100% in one single swipe, most of the requests are for more granular fine adjustments at low volume.

My point is make the slider in the Sonos App behave the same as the physical volume slider on Era-100. Anyone with an Era-100 and/or uses Apple Music iOS App will understand.
