Apple Remote to Sonos Arc Speaker

I have a Sonos Arc connected to a Sony TV and using a AppleTV OS and Apple remote.

The problem I am experiencing is that the AppleTV remote does not connect to the Arc automatically. After unchecking from the TV speakers and checking only the Arc I am able to change the volume of the Arc. I want it so that I don’t use the TV speakers at all and to have the Apple Remote change the volume on the Sonos.

more info: my TV is connected to the Arc via the optical chord on the eARC port on the TV.

The remote and the TV connects automatically to the TV speakers not to the Sonos when the TV turns on and off

I’m not sure I understand. There is no optical port on a TV that carries eARC, if your Arc is connected via optical cable, you’ll need to go into the settings of the Apple TV, and set the remote to connect via IR, so that it is able to connect directly to the Sonos. Of course, once you’ve changed that setting in the Apple TV, you’ll need to go through the setup in the Sonos controller to teach it to recognize that IR signal.

eARC and ARC are only carried by HDMI connections, not optical connections.
