for years I used the apple music app on phone/mac/apple tv. I find the interface intuitive. If I search for an artist, it shows that artist with the option to navigate to albums, songs, "artist essentials" ect. In sonos app, I don't get that. If I search for an artist, the results are just mashed together. It makes exploring the work of an artist almost impossible. For reasons unclear to me, the interface through the sonos app is different for the worse. Im I missing something?
You might check with Apple directly. While Sonos wrote the pieces for the interface, Apple is whom chose how/which to implement.
That being said, Sonos chose to implement ‘common’ interface elements to cover as many use cases as possible, I suspect. There are certainly ‘special features’ that vary from streamer to streamer that may not be able to be implemented, due to the Sonos UI as written. All streaming companies have access to the same Sonos UI elements, built in to the Sonos SMAPI. You may want to refer to the Sonos partners page.
For search, Sonos doesn’t apply any ‘filters’ to the data they receive back from the streamer’s servers, they merely display what is sent, in this case, by Apple.
A fully functional Native App will generally have more features, than the ‘lite’ Sonos Music service version.
I use the native Apple Music to explore/find, add what I want to listen to an Apple Music playlist, and use the Sonos Apple Music service to play the playlist via a Sonos Favourite on Sonos App home page.
Or use AirPlay, if you don't want the benefit of Apple Lossless provided by Sonos Apple Music service.
