Arc + Sub setup failing (Error 1,106) + Spotify zones intermittently disappearing — possible multiple access point issue?

Hi all — looking for guidance from anyone running Sonos with multiple WiFi access points (non-mesh).

Here’s my setup:

  • Verizon Fios router (main router) in basement
  • Additional ethernet wired WiFi access points throughout the house (not mesh, just APs) - first and second floor of home
  • Sonos Arc + Sub + (2) play 1s in basement.  Different generations I believe, not exactly sure which.
  • (2) Amps on first floor hard speaker wired to outdoor speakers

Issue #1 –  Struggling to get my sub and basement settup

The Sub factory resets properly (blinking green), connects to WiFi during setup, but then fails with:

“There was a problem checking for updates”
Error Code: 1,106

The Arc is fully online and stable in the Sonos app, but the room shows:

“Needs Attention”
“Product – Not Connected”

I’ve:
• Power cycled everything
• Factory reset the Sub

Issue #2 – Spotify Zones Randomly Appear/Disappear in apps

Separately (and this has been happening for ~6 months):

Sometimes my Sonos rooms show up in Spotify Connect.  Sometimes they don’t. The Sonos app itself also occasionally shows devices inconsistently.

Support mentioned that if my phone is connected via one access point and the Sonos devices I’m looking to find in the Spotify app are connected via another, they may not show up.

I’m trying to figure out a solution that does not require me to hard wire, via ethernet, the Arc or amps to my router while also maintaining the benefit throughout the house of the wifi access points which importantly get me a strong signal throughout the home.

Tell us more about the APs, brand and how configured. That is likely the root of your connection issues.

My Verizon router connects to a Ubiquity 16 point switch which then sends Cat6 ethernet to various places throughout the home, 2 of which are the access points which are Ubiquiti dual band wireless access points.

Ah, Ubiquity, search here for using that brand with Sonos, there are a few tweaks needed.

I'm using Ubiquity APs here with excellent results, did the tweaks, set all to the same SSID and it just works.

Im not sure I could be any more confused after reading up on Ubiquity and Sonos.  I’m largely IT illiterate.  I’m going to need bring someone in to play with this.

Ubiquity gear is excellent just not for the casual user.  While I gor my APs working I went "simpler to live with" for my switches and routers.

Do check back here a bit later, some folks with more Ubiquity experience may show up with more detailed assistance.
