Question

Android App issues after recent app & player updates (Unifi)

Have had Sonos running happily for months with all Sonos devices in my IoT VLAN and my android mobile in the Trusted VLAN. All worked perfectly with mDNS and inter VLAN blocking firewall rules.

Upgraded Sonos speakers to 93.1-74010 and Android app to 82.00.45 this week and now having issues. Opening the Android app finds my Sonos system and allows normal control. However, let the app sit for a while or go into the background, when you return to the app it reports no products found. Kill the app and reopen, system is found again and the pattern repeats.

I don’t think it is a Unifi issue as the system is found and be controlled successfully on initially loading the app?

Any help appreciated.

Seeing this since the last update too…

I'm not using UniFi and have a fairly standard network set up which has not changed. I have never seen this issue until now.

I’m not experiencing this on iOS…using a non unify system. I would probably submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. This way, there’s a data point that CS can provide to the engineers so they can trace this issue. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, Sonos’ lawyers get sensitive about GDPR, I suspect.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

I’m also seeing the same issue on my network with pfsense and vlans, I have the proper ssdp/mdns setup and the app works fine until it’s been sitting inactive for a while, kill and re-launch solves it.

Thanks. Definitely sounds like a regression introduced into the Android app but not into the iOS app. Independent of network vendor being used.

Not seeing the issue with my pfSense and AP setup which doesn't use VLANs, this narrows the issue a bit.

Have the same issue, was working ok, now not - Sonos on IoT network, Android Sonos App.

Also using VLAN, worked in V81 of android app, stopped working as a result of updating to v82. Full details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/s/PCieJzmXBg

I’m having the same issue on Sonos Android app version 82.00.45, whereas the issue is not present on the iOS Sonos app. My network is the same setup with Unifi hardware, the Android phone on a trusted VLAN and Sonos speakers on IoT VLAN. I have mDNS enabled and firewall rules configured to allow communication between the two VLANs on the necessary ports, and have a music library set up on a computer on the trusted VLAN that is working properly to stream music to the Sonos speakers. In addition to the iOS app not experiencing this issue, downgrading to v81 of the Android app resolved the issue on the Android device.

Update: Tried today and problem seems to have gone. App is now stable when opening after putting to the background - v 82.01.9

Anyone else seeing the same?

There is a new firmware update that was released this week: 82.02.12 on my iPhone and 18.2 build 94.1-75110 for the speakers

Go into settings and check.

I just updated my Sonos One stereo pair to firmware 94.1-75110 and have android app version 82.01.9 but the issue is still happening.

I tried rebooting the speakers after the update but am still having to kill and relaunch the app when it's been sitting in the background.
