My mum has Alzheimer’s and her hearing is not great. I want to set up a system for her that will give her great sound in her small sitting room when she watches tv. I want it to be easy to use so hopefully she can just turn on the tv and the speakers come on automatically and work from the tv remote. I haven’t purchased the tv yet either so need to know what features it needs. My thoughts were to have a couple Play 1’s on stands beside the couch. Is that the way to do it and if so what else do I need? I know I can’t connect them directly to the tv. Thanks so much. I’m really hoping this improves her tv listening a lot and I really want to give her this gift. Cheers!

Since Sonos is heavily dependent on a good wifi/network, and from what you say you need something highly reliable, I’m really not sure Sonos is the right solution in this situation. A conventional speaker plugged into the tv’s audio out, or a standalone Playbar seems a better solution. It’s simple and reliable without needing the multiroom syncronised play that Sonos brings to the table.
I agree with
A good set of Bluetooth headphones might be another solution.
