I’d like to start building a Sonos system and in time have a comprehensive multi room entertainment system. That said I’m starting with a budget and I’d like my first speakers to be useful in my 2 bedroom apartment. What would you recommend as a starter pack?

A good place to start is the Sonos One. It’s affordable, it can be placed just about anywhere in your home (or apartment), and it sounds great. If you don’t need a voice assistant, get the One SL instead to save some money.
If you need something portable, Bluetooth-compatible, and still has the same great sound as the One, consider the Sonos Move.
If you want to use Sonos for TV audio and start a home theater system, look at the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) or the Sonos Arc. If you have a limited budget, the Sonos Ray is good budget sound bar.
