Sonos Playbar - can I connect with HDMI?

Currently, I am connecting my PlayBar with TV via digital audio output 

 

I am looking for brand new TV. 
 

Is it a must that the new TV must have the digital audio output? Can I use the HDMI-ARC to connect my PlayBar with the new TV w/o the digital audio output?

The Playbar needs an optical connection. So HDMI only will not suffice. As I understand it most TV's are equipped with an optical connection (it even seems to be a legal requirement in the US), but be sure to check the TV you want still has an optical connection.
