I have built a new barn and looking for recommendations for a Sonos setup. The area overall is 48’ x 48’  with 17’ Ceilings. In that 48x48 area there is a 12x 24 area under a loft for a tv/entertainment area then the other 12x24 area attached to that is an office and bathroom.

I’m looking to have a entertainment area sound hooked to the tv sound with my current Sonos Ray, however when i want music I’m looking for recommendation on the larger area and looking to be loud.

Also Have a 12’ x 48’ porch outdoor area i would want speakers for as well.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi @ASchmerge

Welcome to the Sonos Community! And, apologies for the delay.

I think I would have to recommend Sonos Amp(s) for your larger spaces.

With speakers of 8 Ohm impedance, you can wire 4 speakers to one Amp, or, if you use the Sonance Architectural speakers which were designed with the Sonos Amp in mind, then you can connect up to 6 speakers to each Amp. For outside, I recommend the Sonance Outdoor speakers in particular.

Please note that you need a separate Amp for each individually-controllable room/zone you want, but also note that if you have multiple Amps, they can be grouped so that they play together.

TruePlay Tuning is only available with Amp when using Sonance Architectural speakers, but any brand of passive speakers can be used.

Playing TV audio to other rooms/zones can be done, but there can be no guarantees that the playback will be in sync - the Ray will always try to maintain sync with the TV picture rather than other zones.

Using Amp will mean that you will not need to route power cables to Sonos All-in-one speakers, which would be the other option, though thinner wires carrying the sound will be needed. If you prefer to have wireless speakers installed instead of Amps, then I would probably have to recommend many of them, whichever model you go for. Given the size of the space, Sonos Fives might be the best option.

I hope this helps - if you have further questions, please don’t hesitate.

I purchased 4- Sonos, five speakers and could not be happier. Thank you so much for your expertise. Lacking a bit of base however. What would you recommend for a sub woofer since your first recommendation was so great? Thank You in advance!

The Sub 4 is the latest one but if you can get a great price I wouldn't rule out a Gen 3 Sub.

Depending on how you have your Fives setup you can bind a Sub to each or each stereo pair.

Hi @ASchmerge

I agree with @Stanley_4.
