Noob questions perhaps but will I get better 5.1 with the BEAM and HDMI than I would with the PLAYBASE/BAR and Optical?

Better 5.1? No, the formats will be the same, so quality of the stream will not change. Easier, better sound? Subjective. Easier in the fact that you can connect via HDMI CEC and ARC, which allows you to control the TV via the Beam, and will automatically switch codecs to one the Beam can decode. In that case it has more modern features.

But in reality, the Beam is a lower priced Playbar for smaller rooms/TV's.

Beam with HDMI is more future proof with airplay2 and software updates.

For the room dimensions I am still trying to figure out what the word "smaller" means...

5mq? 10mq? 20mq?
