I have a couple of Play 5 (v1) and some newer play 1’s and a bridge. I am proposing to replace the bridge with a new boost. Will the Play 5 v1 work with the new boost?

Yes, Sonos boost is compatible with S1 products.
Just don't update the boost once you got a notification about S2 upgrade.
