Best Setup for Music Only

My dad has a room in the house where he used to listen to music and decompress.  His speaker system is outdated so I would like to set him up with a Sonos system.  What would you recommend for just listening to music only?  None of these products would be connected to a TV.

Assuming your dad just wants great stereo I recommend two Sonos Fives in stereo pair. Some may recommend the Era 300’s has they are less expensive. However, IMO they don’t have the low-end as generated by a pair of Sonos Fives without adding a Sub (full size or sub-mini).

If you think your dad may branch-off into Dolby Atmos listening then the Era 300’s are the way to go.

The least expensive setup would be Sonos Era 100’s x 2 with a Sub Mini. Still good stereo but not as full IMO as a pair of Fives or Era 300’s.

Either of the three (3) recommendations can accommodate a Turntable with built-in pre-amp or by using an outboard pre-amp.

Also, all recommendations can accommodate streaming services as well as AirPlay2. The Era 300’s and Era 100’s via Alexa or Sonos Voice that is on-board. The Fives would require an external Alexa device (Echo) integrated with Sonos. Additionally, the Era 300’s and Era 100’s are Bluetooth compatible.

EDIT: Another option to consider is the Sonos Move2 as a stereo pair. They are portable which means your dad can “decompress” outdoors if he likes. Again the Move2’s can accommodate a turntable and are Bluetooth and AirPlay capable .

What would be your dad’s source be for playing music?

Just his iPhone using Spotify.

How outdated is his system? If it just misses an internet connection for Spotify, you could ad a Sonos Port. Or even a bluetooth receiver.

Volume adjustment is located at the bottom of the app when in the home screen inside the now playing section. It’s the Dot inside the line that runs left to right or however you choose to describe it.

It you can post a screenshot of the app you are using so we can verify if you are using a clone of the Sonos app.

@wth71ster A bit out of context for this thread. You should see the line with the speaker symbol on the bottom of your screen:

@106rallye

Thanks for posting the screenshot. I’m not at home otherwise I would have done the same. 👌
