Wife and I "gifted"  ourselves two new Sonos Roams in Dec '23, one orange, one green. Of course how little did anyone expect the Black Spring (year, and continuation for some) that Sonos would force upon us.

Yesterday, her roam decided to up and experience the knocking noise all of a sudden while playing.

FIX (PERMANENT?): It took about, if not over, 30 seconds of holding the power button to turn it off. Turning it back on, all seemed back to normal.  Time will tell.

We were hoping that the Roams were going to be able to eventually link, wired or wireless, to build a stereo pairing for use at camp sites, picnics, and back yard hangs while relaxing with a beverage or gardening. But someone decided to torpedo the app, and the rest is history.

We clearly knew the quality of device we were buying into for portability which could even be an extension of our other Sonos speakers. But the app-hot-mess and other shortcomings nearly immediately put the Roams into the buyers remorse column as soon as they arrived after such anticipation.  We have used them but NOT nearly as much as we could have had the app worked, had BT consistently worked, had the been updated to be stereo paired. Their battery life is fine, the multiple charge options are nice although annoyingly two DISTINCT charge times!

Would LOVE TO SEE…

1- Roams be able to be wireless or wired stereo pairs,

2- Roams NO LONGER be a 2nd class citizen in the app - this has improved some, but needs some more love. SONOS Feel free to contact me via email for more details.

3- Fix these lingering Roam, S2 App, Voice, Port/amp, and  Speaker issues.

4- Revitalized beta testing program - app, firmware, and hardware

Would LOVE TO SEE…

1- Roams be able to be wireless or wired stereo pairs,

  • This is possible now as wireless on your network.

2- Roams NO LONGER be a 2nd class citizen in the app - this has improved some, but needs some more love. SONOS Feel free to contact me via email for more details.

  • My Roams work perfectly in the app. Have you updated app, your device and the Roams themselves

3- Fix these lingering Roam, S2 App, Voice, Port/amp, and  Speaker issues.

  • There are new updates for App and Sonos speakers released the week of June 8th

4- Revitalized beta testing program - app, firmware, and hardware

  • That can’t be addressed in the community. That is a question for Sonos Beta Team. You have the ability to sign-up to be considered as a Beta tester.

  1. Already exists, if the Roams are connected to your LAN (WiFi). I suspect you really mean when not connected via your LAN.
  2. Has no meaning. What do you mean by ‘second class citizen’? I’ve noticed zero difference in the Sonos controller between other speakers and my Roam.
  3. Which issues? If there are lingering issues there, more definition is needed, please.
  4. Not sure what you mean by ‘revitalized’, but I’d love for Sonos to listen more to their beta community, which reports suggest that the former management didn’t. I have hopes for the new CEO and management structure, but given that Beta’s are covered by NDAs, it’s unlikely, unless involved, that the public will hear much.
