My system is currently a mix of S1 and S2 products. I would like to upgrade them all to S2, but I have one (Play:5) that isn’t S2 compatible.

I have an idea to get the Play:5 to work on an S2 system, please let me know if you think this will work.

1: I have an S2 compatible Connect:Amp
2: Use speaker wire to RCA out of the Connect:Amp
3: RCA to aux connection
4: Aux line in to Play:5

I know I’ll probably have to control volume separately on the S1 app for this, but it seems like I’ll least be able to group the Play:5 (via Connect:Amp) with the rest of the system this way.

Any thoughts?

I’m not fond of the concept, but it should work.

Edit: The Sonos line in is a line level input, and not designed for a powered device, such as the Sonos speaker connection from the CONNECT:AMP. There will be a lot of juggling between output levels, and input sensitivity, and potential ‘no signal’ or ‘overload’ events.
