  • Advice please. I have a Beam 2 and 2 x One SL’s in my living room, which I use for TV and music. I am about to take possession of 2 x Era 100’s for my conservatory, just for music.
  • I would like comments on whether to put the Era 100’s in my conservatory, as my original plan, or put the 2 Ones there and bring the Eras’ into the living room with the beam.
    Thank you
    😎

Do you want surround sound with the TV?

Which speakers sound better (to you)?

Yes, I want surround sound, I think? I’ve not received the Eras yet so I don’t know which sounds best. As I can’t compare yet I’m not sure if surround sound is better?

It’s simple enough to remove and add surrounds. Try both the Ones and the Eras as a stereo pair in your conservatory and let your ears decide which is better.

Another option, the ERA-100 has dual angle tweeters, so depending on room size, what you are listening to etc, you could have single ERA-100 in conservatory, and the other ERA-100 in another room.

Room size, conservatory, is small. As I live in Spain I close or open it all up and sit, there or in garden listening to any kind of music, apart from crap or modern jazz.🤣

Single-speaker stereo is rarely going to sound as good as two speakers though.

It’s the sole reason I bought two. For the stereo sound. Thank you.👍🏾

Agree, if you are sitting in optimum position, equal distance from both speakers, then of course a pair will sound better.

But, maybe if you are in kitchen, away from conservatory, listening to a pair of ERAs in conservatory it wouldn’t sound as good as if you had a single ERA in kitchen?

Or if you are seated very close to single speaker of a pair?

In any case, its easy to move/change wireless speakers, and let ears decide, as you said earlier 😀

I still stand by my first reply - when you get the new speakers, try the Ones and the Eras as your stereo pair and go with your preference.

I have both One SL and Play 1 surrounds on two different systems and find them quite adequate. An upgrade to 300s might make sense from a sonic standpoint but the 100s really wouldn’t.

Unless you are unhappy with your current surround sound I’d just put the 100s in the other room. But as said trying both is an option.

Thank you all. The 100s are arriving Monday, from the Netherlands, and as soon as I find out what to do I shall mix and match and see (or hear🤣) which I prefer.

much obliged for your answers.👍🏾👍🏾

Set up the 100’s as a new room and stereo-pair them. Listen for a week. Then un-pair them, switch to the home theatre room and Remove Surrounds. When you then select Add surrounds you should get the option to add the Ones or the Eras - select Eras. Then stereo-pair the Ones as your music stereo-pair and listen for differences.

Very helpful, I shall do what you suggest. Only problem I have is my tablet doesn’t support the new app so I have to do it on my phone. 👍🏽👍🏽

Thank you all but nik9669a gave me all I need to know 👍🏽👍🏽

Let us know how you get on, once you’ve decided.

Got my Era100s, to sit in the living room with the Beam and moved the One SL’s into the conservatory. After over 3 hours on Monday trying to set them up and failing I got fed up and went for a beer. After another 3 hour try on Tuesday I still hadn’t got the Era’s to join the rest. When I thought I had cracked it something else went wrong.

I phoned SONOS help line. Waited over 40 minutes to be answered. Finally a lovely lady called Andrea answered from Romania. Listened to my story and tried to help. We still couldn’t get them to join so she got into my account and did a diagnostic test. Finally we cracked it after many times of resetting each one of the 5 products. Then I wanted to un group the Ones to put in the conservatory and name them differently from the living room. Won’t let me. Andrea couldn’t figure out why so put me on hold to ask colleagues. NOPE, NOTHING, NADA. No one could figure out why I can’t rename them so now I have to do it manually through the Apple app when I play music. Also can’t play Apple Music through the SONOS app. Won’t let me but not a big problem as I can’t play through the Apple app.
After great apologies from Andrea we settled on what we had achieved and I’ll have to live with it. She was lovely and she realises the problems with the new app.

TOTAL TIME ON PHONE TO SONOS 1 HOUR AND 50 MINUTES. TOTAL TIME TRYING MYSELF 6.5 hours. I was exhausted and went for a beer.🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

This may help with renaming:

Thank you, it’s worked this morning but not Tuesday or Wednesday, even with SONOS Technical’s advice and help.

Couple of thing wrong though. It’s not the Apple app home, it’s the SONOS app under settings. Also some of the advice on their help sheet is wrong.
