if I have 5 play 1’s no voice activation can i purchase 1 voice activated Play 1 to control the 5?

No. You can explicitly name the room you want music to play in with your voice request. You can also setup Alexa groups so that an Amazon echo is tied to a Sonos room by default to play music.

Yes, you can purchase any voice-enabled Sonos device and use it to control your Play:1s. If you use Amazon Alexa, you can even use an Amazon Echo device to control your Play:1s.
