Trying to connect Play:5 gen2 to new router

I got to the part of the procedure that says “press the button on play:5 with the flashing light.

Do I press and hold or just press and release? And it doesn’t really feel like a button. It’s just the flashing light on top of the speaker. If I press on it I get a little tone (I think) and then I release. Should it change color? Nothing happens after that and then I get a message that say “We didn’t detect a button press”

I’m guessing that you’re referring to a Play:5 (gen2) speaker - maybe see the two Sonos support links below links and note that the ‘join/infinity’ button that I think you’re referring to, is the one on the rear panel of the speaker, but try to follow the instructions as detailed in the Sonos App.

Airgetlam

And it sure seems like you’re attempting to add a stereo speaker, not a regular ‘add to Sonos’ device.

Given that you apparently already have Sonos speakers set up, I’d be tempted to factory reset it before re-adding it to your system. That should get you to where @Ken_Griffiths  has pointed.

Hi Ken, Yes it is the Play:5 gen 2. I followed all of the steps. The button on the back to which you refer I believe is the one I am asked to press in the initial step: Press and hold the button on your Play:5 until the light flashes amber. That step works fine. Then it says Getting your Play:5 ready, That step is fine. Then it asks if I want to join the network and that part works fine. Then it says **PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE PLAY:5 WITH THE FLASHING LIGHT. Ken, the only flashing iight is on the top of the speaker, not on the rear.

Thank you for taking the time to respond… I am interested if you have further insights

Edit: To address Airgetlam… no, it is not a new speaker. I changed the router and switched ISPs. I have already been where Ken Griffiths has pointed

@rusuja,

See this section in the second support link i have provided above…

Updating WiFi settings on non-BLE supported devices

Currently, the Sonos app can update WiFi settings on Sonos products that are capable of using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Some Sonos products don’t have BLE capabilities, so the Sonos app will not be able to discover them in order to update their WiFi network information. These products are:

  • Connect (Gen 2)
  • Connect:Amp (Gen 2)
  • One (Gen 1)
  • Play:1
  • Play:3
  • Play:5 (Gen 2) **  <—— note
  • Playbar
  • Playbase
  • Sub (Gen 1)
  • Sub (Gen 2)
  • SYMFONISK Bookshelf (Gen 1)
  • SYMFONISK Table lamp (Gen 2)

If you read the article further, it explains what you need to do to setup your Play:5, but it requires a wired system setup in order to change the network settings and you need to wire a different Sonos speaker, if you have the option to do that? Otherwise you could perhaps speak to Sonos customer support via this link below and they maybe able to resolve the matter with you over the phone.

Here’s a link to speak to Sonos Staff:

Thank you… I am all set. I just did a factory reset and pretended it was brand new. Up and running wirelessly.

Ken_Griffiths

Yeah, that was probably the easiest way forward with an older non-BLE Sonos product.

Anyhow, good to hear you’ve now sorted it and are back up and running.
