Hey there. since about 2 months ago, which is also around when iOS 18 came out (though im not sure they are related), ive been having issues airplaying from my iPhone (or iPad) to my sonos speakers. Either 1 of 2 things happens: there is a 5-10 second delay and then the music or podcast starts playing, or other times, it is never able to play. there is no error message, and my speakers appear in the airplay list just fine. I have power cycled multiple times my: device, both sonos speakers, and my router. i don't see a major difference when i do. software is up to date. this happens when using a variety of apps to airplay, but does not occur when playing directly from the sonos app (which i don't use).

Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: i should follow up by saying ive spoken to support and submitted a diagnostic but they haven't found anything wrong. I have a sonos one and a sonos beam.

I can only relate my own experience with AirPlay 2 from Apple devices, and it has been several years since I had any difficulty, but I found hard rebooting my Apple devices (both iPhone and iPad) worked a treat, and rebooting the router or speakers had no effect.

You’ve proven there is no network issues to be looked at by connecting with the Sonos controller, so there isn’t much to logically point at, except the AirPlay 2 signal itself, especially if Sonos reps say they don’t see anything wrong with the receipt and distribution of the signal. Have you contacted Apple’s support (something I’ve never been able to figure out how to penetrate)?

yea i contacted apple last night. based on their message boards it looks like people have been having an issue with airplay since ios18. as of now im able to connect to the speakers just with a delay often, which isn't ideal but ok. some people said 18.1 update helped so maybe that's the difference between unable to connect and just a delay. thanks

Given that the baseball season is now over, I haven’t recently tried a connection via AirPlay 2. Good to know Apple is aware of it, at least. But just like any company of that size, I suspect remedies will be slow, while still hoping for speed. It isn’t that long before the Giants start to play again!
