Transferring older but compatible devices from S1 to the new Sonos app

Hi there,

I recently replaced my old play 5s with newer speakers that I added to the new Sonos app. I still have two speakers (play 3 and play 1) and a boost in the S1 app. I wanted to transfer them but somehow I cannot get it to work. S1 asks me to update and when I do that it opens the new Sonos app. But when I then update there it says the system is up to date and the three devices do not show in the new app.

Not sure what to do? Has anyone had this problem and could fix it? Would be grateful for any advice or help. Let me know if further info is required.

Thanks so much in advance.

All the best, Tim

Hi @timsander

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear of the issue you were having. From my view of your system, it looks like you got this all fixed now.

For the sake of having an answer here on the thread, I think you likely you would have needed to factory reset your existing S2 system and then upgrade the S1 system from the S1 app, then add each reset speaker to the now-upgraded S2 system.

Hi jgatie, thanks so much for your reply.

Yes, I read that article but it does not solve my issue. As I said the new app says it’s up to date and does not show the older but compatible devices.

Have you tried removing the Boost to see if the Play 3and 1 will show up without it?

You may also want to try hardwiring each speaker to your router/network using the cable that the boost currently uses. You can move the speakers back to their locations after the process is complete.
