Hi, I have a gen 1 Symfonisk bookshelf that is connected via UTP to my router which is in my storage room. It is currently my only Sonos device. Because of the location of my router, I would very much like to get rid of the cable.

If I recall correctly, the Gen 1 speaker, when used by itself, can only be used when connected via UTP cable. Is that correct?

Would adding a Gen 2 speaker (which I believe creates a network wirelessly?) allow me to use the Gen 1 speaker without the UTP cable?

My apologies if I sound completely clueless – I am. My ex bought and installed the speaker and I just hooked it up the way I saw him do it when I moved 😬

All Sonos devices can be used wirelessly.  The requirement of the wired device went away years ago.
