I recently found the perfect solution for a smaller room in the house; creating a zone with my Sonos Five and Sonos Era 300 for easy connectivity and playback. I recently purchased a Sonos Mini Sub in an attempt to add it to the zone via the Sonos Era 300. Turns out that you cannot have any subs in the zone. I added to the sub with my Sonos Era 300 and settled with grouping the Five in each time I use the speakers. It would be much easier if the Sub was able to be connected to one of the speakers and also allowed to be added to the zone together. This would subtract the need to group my speakers together every single time I want to use them. Please add this feature!
Could you define your terms, please?
As far as I’m aware, a Sonos Sub mini can be bonded with any non portable product, as suggested in the FAQ section of the sales page. This would include a Sonos Era 300. At that point, the ‘room’ can be grouped with any other Sonos ‘room’
Zones, on the other hand, as discussed in the Zones thread / intro, can’t include a Sub or Sub mini. Zones are mostly intended for use in larger venues, such as restaurants, etc, and the feature bled over to home use because it was an easy feature to bring over.
Grouping, which has been a traditional system used by Sonos since inception, is only broken by three events: manual change from commands from the controller, power loss, or disconnection caused by an ‘automatic change’ caused by the controller (think autoplay by a soundbar automatically removing grouped rooms). At no point would any of those three events break the ‘bonding’ between the Sub mini and the device it was bonded to, they would remain connected.
Are you having issue with the bonding of your Sub Mini? Or are you just trying to extend ‘zones’ a bit further?
You can create a named group - “Smaller Room” for example - and include the Era-with-bonded-Sub-Mini and the Five. Then play to Smaller Room without the the need do any grouping.
